Hey everyone,
I had a long but very good day today. I barely slept and I was up early to go to a job interview for a store and got a job offer for a keyholder position, only part time but it'll hopefully let me still have time for writing. The paperwork has apparently already gone through head office as of earlier tonight, which was a lot sooner than the manager thought, and I got an email from them. So the manager will probably call me tomorrow and they'll get me in for training sometime over the next few days and hopefully on the schedule for next week. Got my new phone and set it up and got some other things out of the way too and then we all went to the beach after the little one got off school and I got some good writing inspiration.
My ribs still hurt if I move too quickly or turn too much and I'm exhausted, but it looks like my life is taking a turn for the better since coming here.

Guess I spoke too soon
The day wasn't quite over yet. I was just talking with my daughter and my parents just got back from their 50th anniversary vacation and my mom tested positive for covid. Mom's almost 70 and Dad is 80 and their health hasn't been great for years now. My daughter doesn't know how bad it is, or any detail really, since Mom just told her that she tested positive, nothing else. Now we're both freaking out. :(

if they can survive the common cold odds are they will survive this many of the so called reported covid deaths are not in fact even covid related for example there was 1 guy who got run over by a big rig they called it a covid kill. so in reality covid is less deadly then the common cold if there helth is that bad do some research out side of the media and get the good hard facts. the more you can reduce there worry the better there chances. make them believe they will survive this and they most likely will.

Please stop that. I'm constantly being bombarded by "people at the pub" talking about SARS-CoV-2 being 'common cold' or 'flu' - and they don't know anything about that.
I have doctors as customers and they've told me straight out about the people that have ended up in the hospital from it. These are THEIR patients. Not random "Was hit by a truck and marked as Covid". I left a customer's office a few hours ago - where one of the employees got it and died. Another customer had two employees that didn't bother getting a vaccine. Both survived, but one did it through immediately getting medical testing and going on the monoclonal antibodies -and was still down for two weeks. The other ignored it, and spent 6 weeks mostly flat on his back, and is still having some issues. Another customer, who I spoke with an hour ago, has lost several friends who apparently believed the same folks you have.
My father, however, who is in his 70's, had full vaccinations, and still picked it up on a trip. _Because_ of the vaccinations, he was only down for a few days. I still wear a mask when visiting customers, because I have respect for them (even if they don't for me), and in case I pick something up from one, I don't want to pass it on to another. (Especially the last few days, where I've had serious throat congestion, if no pain or other issues)
I'm a firm believer in vaccinations. I mean, after the last round, my cellular reception improved. Must be that microchip.

Covid disinformation
While it is human nature NOT to want to hear bad news but Covid is indeed serious for a significant part of the population. Over a million (and counting) in the US have died from it and people who have a mild case of one strain may very get a bad reaction from another strain. My dental hygenist experienced that where the first case she got was only a week to resolve, her second case took her a MONTH to get over.
My partner's niece had Covid early in the pandemic and her mother had to call in favors to get oxygen to her else she would've likely died. This is before the vaccine. Covid is a bit more manageable now due to vaccines blunting any infections IF you get them in a timely fashion.
Diseases are no respect for political ideology and a certain R wing death cult is insisting that Covid is 'not that bad' but will never change their position because, well, that will show 'weakness' instead of showing that they can reason.

Right at this point, which includes the last year with vaccines, Italy has had 18.1 million cases, and 168 thousand deaths _directly_ from SARS-CoV-2. There have been over 6 million global known deaths and at least 540 million global known cases, with the US leading the pack at roughly 1 million associated deaths - double that of India, which has a larger population.
That's a 1 in 300 death ratio, roughly. Influenza is estimated to be 250-300,000 deaths per year. It's hard to say there. The P&I mortality index (Pneumonia and Influenza) is only calculated by those people that have it bad enough to end up in hospital, but that's roughly 11% in an average year. Meaning you have 1 in 10 chance of going out the back door if you came in the front door with influenza. (You can see where that's a hard number to calculate. most people don't bother getting tested for influenza when they're feeling badly)
Coronaviruses in general are harder to deal with, and yet easier. They're easier because they mutate very slowly. Even after three years, the mutated versions of SARS-CoV-2 are easily recognizable from the origin strain, and the vaccines from the original strain still function against the latest ones (if with less effectiveness). Influenza, on the other hand, mutates VERY quickly. The vaccine developed at the beginning of last year lost almost all effectiveness by the end of the year, and was only good for 15-20 (I think) of the strains they could detect at the time, while there are dozens, scores, if not hundreds, of mutations within months.
The problem with coronavirus is that the antibodies fade quickly. The body remembers them, but replicating after seeing them is far slower than having some floating around active in the bloodstream. Flu vaccine antibodies last far longer.

Call the company and tell them about the covid situation in your home. If they follow protocol, you got at least five days of preventive isolation to get better.

As long as they've had the vaccinations and boosters, it shouldn't really be a problem. Like all vaccinations, they prep your immune system, and do a good job. It's just that they don't last a long time. That's the biggest problem with coronavirus vaccines, apparently.
In another 5-10 years, SARS-CoV-2 will probably run down to a 'don't bother getting vaccines' virus; that's the standard 'mutate to be less lethal' progress that viruses follow.

My parents had their vaccinations and the boosters before going but my mom still got it. My daughter was able to talk to my mom today and only Mom caught it so she's keeping her distance from Dad so he doesn't. She's feeling bad but not bad enough to need the hospital and she promised that if she does start to feel worse she'll go there.

Vaccinations don't stop you
Vaccinations don't stop you from getting anything. it just trains the immune system on how to deal with it faster. For example, my father picked it up enough to go get tested. My mother, though she probably caught it, didn't show symptoms. My father was fine within a week or so.
Anyway - good for you on being on track to improve your situation. May it continue to improve.
