I watched Ricky Gervias latest standup on Netflix last night. He made a few jokes about women, wealth, fat people and trans.
There are some people upset about this. If you have seen any of his Golden Globs award hosting stuff. You know his jokes can cause offence. A lot of comedy works like this. Is this offensive?
“I love the new women. The new ones we’ve been seeing lately. The ones with beards and cocks. They’re as good as gold, I love ’em. No, it’s the old-fashioned ones, they go,
"Oh, they want to use our toilets.’
‘Why shouldn’t they use your toilets?’
‘For ladies!’
‘They are ladies — look at their pronouns!
What about this person isn’t a lady?’
‘Well, his penis.’
‘Her penis, you fucking bigot!’
‘What if he rapes me?’
‘What if she rapes you, you fucking TERF whore!’”
I can see how some may find it offensive. He is a bit like "marmite" You love him or hate him. I enjoyed Afterlife so much, I can probably forgive him anything.

I hate Marmite
I dont like Mr. Gervais but have to admit being amused by a lot of his comments and his views on the staus of being offended, i.e. does one offended tweet recieved back make him a terrible person when he is obviously goading his audience. I heard him on Radio 2 yesterday afternoon and was in stitches when he asked had anyone ever discovered a lack of toilet paper and had to do the waddle of shame - following up with "he got some strange looks walking into Tesco's!"
George Carlin
Jokes were crude and fowl but a lot of people paid to watch him and listen to his potty mouth. Ricky Gervias is in the same league but with a different set of raunchy jokes. There are so many commercials now days that surely appeal to the adult with a five year old mind.
If it appeals to many and doesn't offend the perpetually offended liberals then why not? Crude comedy and parody is to offend. There is a choice we all have, listen or watch it or not. A few minutes of watching George Carlin sated my curiosity for his filth. I've read a few jokes of Mr. Gervias and there is a better smell coming from an open septic tank.
He doesn't offend me as I probably heard every derogatory, caustic name could be said about transgender. Most were ranting about queer abominations and God's mistakes not knowing one of those freaks was standing in front of them. They and those like them have a right to their opinion.
If Mr. Gervias finds a following who pays to listen then good for him. As long as we can accept jokes or parody pointed at us then we can be sure we are secure and comfortable being who we are.
If I may quote my favorite psychologist. "You're right - you live with confidence and self-acceptance."
I know who and if there is a "what" I am, nothing is going to change. Make all the comments, all the jokes, and say what is on their mind, for or against. I always receive several nice comments every time I'm out so I must be doing it right.

Thanks Barbie, I took my mum shopping today. She said she was trying to get me some size 7 sandles when she went to the town yesterday. She has been looking at he photo albums. She told me she noticed that I always looked the most like a girl compared to my brothers. They take after my father, I take after her. Apart for putting on weight too easily, she is 84 and looks 64. So I hope I have her genes shame they aren't XX.
The other thing I don't want from my father's side is Huntington's. He and both his brothers and my younger brother died of it.

He does say that most of the things he jokes about are not his real opinions, they are just said to make people laugh. Even at the end he says he agrees with trans rights, he said they are human rights. The to keep the joke going he says but at least lose the cock.
I think its all down to the type of comedy. Jimmy Carr says some horrible stuff. I often laugh then feel guilty.

Hugs Jill, all of us have our niche in life. I couldn't coach soccer if my life depended on it. I couldn't manage a multi million dollar company. Would I be safe to say you aren't going to run a dairy farm or go hunting coyotes and other critters who think chickens and livestock is on their menu?

There isn't enough money in the world to entice me to do what you do. I couldn't if I wanted. I'm where I belong. I worked across most of this nation, flew over a lot of it, lived in Detroit, Corpus Christi, and dozens of places in between. I was born on this farm, God willing, I'll give up this mortal body here. A few more tornadoes it might be a little sooner than I expect but that's okay too. I lived through one, and was close enough to shake hands with a couple others.

Shooting Critters
As you know, I wrestled my share of John Deeres. I also shot a lot of dogs and fox that thought of our chickens as lunch. I didn't enjoy killing anything after about my 8th birthday. But I did what had to be done. Before that, I was that average idiot who thought it was wonderful sport to shoot birds off the power lines with my BB gun.
We hunted deer on our land year-round for food. Venison in our freezer allowed us to sell our canners and cutters for much-needed money.
Our guns were thought of as tools.
There are many things about farmers I admire and respect. One of the primary reasons farmers should be respected is that they can't fake good results. If you don't show up for work on time, your cows will develop mastitis. If you don't get your crops in early enough, the season is wasted. If you don't maintain your machinery, it will break down. Farming takes persistence, imagination, and a lot of heart.
Last night I was talking to one of my sons. He stated that he and his girlfriend are considering moving to Portugal due to how things are going in the U.S. The latest school shooting and the Roe v. Wade thing has him looking for a country that is more in line with his values.
I hope you're right. I hope our country allows for niches going forward.

And that is why it is usually better to use the median instead of an average (arithmetic vs. geometric can also give significantly different results), at least in statistically small populations.
Not a great fan
but at least he does not try to be 100% PC, unlike so many others who go out of their way not to offend anyone. An essential part of comedy is being able to poke fun at someone.

Not offended as a trans person
I've never cared for potty humor and this is no exception. If you can't tell the joke and get a laugh without using foul language, then it's not really funny. The laughter for such jokes is as much nervous laughter as it is anything else.
While not offended by the trans element, I am offended by the language.
