Strange. I visited the site just now and got a message that I wasn't authorised to access that page. I logged in and got the usual 'Home' page. As an experiment, I logged out again, and lost the 'Home' page. Never happened before. Does this mean that only people with usernames and also logged in can access the site now?
While I'm here I'd just like to clear up a definition. Which is the right hand side of the page? For me the right hand side is on MY right and carries the list of on line users. The list of recent comments in in left margin. I thought this was the universal convention but I noticed Erin referred to the new comment structure as being on the right ie as if you were in the page looking out. I don't suppose it matters but it is slightly confusing

Geoff, It depends on the theme you have selected.
The one I use, don't ask me which one right now, reverses the left and right columns when I log in.
And I've seen the access denied once in a while when switching pages, but it always goes away when I do a next step, any next step.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
Actually I'm forced to be more ambidextrous than I was because my right hand isn't as dexterous as formerly because of a spinal injury. I now have to use a small screwdriver in my left hand which makes fiddly jobs more difficult than before. I'd like to hear you play the piano backwards. I'm told my mother was ambidextrous and that it made her an accomplished pianist. Unfortunately yet another talent that passed me by.
So what's the answer? I use Firefox latest browser and the hiccup occurred part way through the day when I returned having been elsewhere for a while. It's not a really serious problem for me but if it's a widespread phenomenon then casual readers will be discouraged and those who like to browse without showing on the 'On-line users column (on the right :) ) equally so.

I'm frankly baffled with the problem. I run into it myself sometimes and have found that a force reload of the page sometimes fixes it.
What I've done with the piano is confuse the right and left hand parts, so I'm playing chords with the treble and melody in the bass, except that the chords are mirrored so a G Major becomes a D Minor. I usually only do it in C which has no black keys.

Logging in
Unless logged in, I get 'access denied' on all pages, including bigclosetr.us/topshelf, whether accessing through the bigclosetr.us main page or a bookmark. I experience the same with IE7, FF 3.0.5 and Chrome 1.0.154. I've tried blowing away cookies, cache and saved data on FF and no change. Was okay y'day about 17:30 EST, broken by 23:30 EST (51 users & 126 guests)& still this AM (48 users, 87 guests). Possibly helpful: sometimes the "Who's Online" count changes somewhat between when logged in and not, 40+ vs. <30.

This was not the problem I thought everyone was talking about. :) Apparently, the global permissions file got corrupted. I've tried repairing it and it seems to be working now.

Geoff: Check the date of the page before you log-in and what is the date after log-in. It's a problem with Explorer. I had to reload Explorer to correct it. Richard

For IE login problem
Log out of site. Close browser window and open new one. Log back in. Should fix it. It's IE serving a stale page, apparently.
There may be another problem with a corrupt db file going on, too. I'm looking into that.

Your cookies are being weird. Are you on a dynamic ip type host like AOL or cable? That can cause the multiple apparent login thingie.

I read from left to right; I start on the right side of the page. I think others do it differently, although we all do it the same (unless it is in Hebrew, an oriental language, or ancient Greek (who, I think, went back and forth; somebody did it that way anyway)).

Yes. The long comments list was a code hack. When I have some air and feel a bit better, I'll try to fix that. Right now, I'm just too short of breath to work on code.

I'm glad that i'm not the only one.I did my registration as asked,then happily logged on for about a week,but once I had done my monthly clean up BC would no longer recognise my user name or password.Bloody annoying.stienbeck
