Hey everyone, lots going on right now with me. First, I got the new laptop all set up and I'm working on writing or re-writing chapters since the hard drive from the old comp was toast. I posted chapter five of Cold Fey today to give you all a little something until I have more to post and I'll hopefully have chapter 11 ready to post on my Patreon tomorrow. I did write a short called Dude! that I posted on Patreon for now, for those who follow me there.
I'm still saving up for a place for the end of the summer but I may have some work in trade for services. I met a body piercer/deep tissue masseuse. He's kinda hot, we hung out for a bit, and I got some of my piercings redone and he's looking for someone who's fluent in English with mad writing skills to help with his website and stuff. So while it might not be cash I could get some massages or more piercings out of the deal :)
*big hugs to you all*

Re: Taelya
That's one of the things I'm re-writing, but I hope to have the first chapter of book 2 soonish.

Old computer
Hmm, if the old HD is toast then maybe you can revive the old computer by putting a new HD in it? If that works then you have either a backup computer or can sell it for a bit.
I might be able to
There were more problems than just the hard drive though, it's been giving me trouble for a long while now and it could just cost me more to replace parts than I could sell it for.

Hard Drive
If the drive can start up and be read, there are cheap programs to restore the data. (I have GetDataBack.)
If the hard drive was truly toast, in that it won't start up and be read, there's still the option of an expensive data recovery by a professional.
Finally, if the drive is to be disposed of and you don't want to use the expensive data recovery, no harm is done in doing potentially destructive tricks that have a minimal chance of getting it to start (even if just once to recover the data). Some even don't affect the platter surfaces, which leaves the professional data recovery option available.
One laptop of mine has been living on borrowed time for four or five years, after being toast for at least a month due to a stupid accident on my part. (I kept procrastinating at disposing of it. I just kept trying to start it -- especially after it once started and ran for some time before failing.) Finally, at one very last attempt before removing the HDD and disposing of it, I tried it, and it's been working ever since. (Admittedly with defects.)
As for web services, I hope that you can hold out for some cash, unless he's saving you money.

There are options
I was prepared for this for a while tough and almost everything was backed up. The few chapters that weren't I have re-written now or made good progress on, they might even be better than before. I'm tempted to just take a sledgehammer to the old rig just to vent the frustrations it's given me the past few years.
I'll go for cash if I can, but he is a small business and it would save me spending money on new piercings I want to get later, and with all the stress I've been going through lately a nice deep tissue massage could hit the spot.
