Hey everyone,

For those of you wondering about the title of this chapter of my blog, no this isn't a movie or book review or something, but we'll get to that in a moment. I've had a couple of good weeks, this past week I posted my three regular story chapters on time, plus two shorts, and that doesn't even include the first chapter I finished on something new and parts of a Hyperverse short story. I have been in the zone. So it kinda sucks that I seem to have sprained my left thumb somehow. I'm not even sure when or how it happened but the pain is being a bit distracting while I'm trying to finish chapters and such. I can still type for the most part and thank goodness it isn't the right thumb or I wouldn't be able to do much of anything. Martin is going to get something to wrap it and help with the pain and swelling tomorrow, but things might be a little slow for a while depending on how well I can manage with the pain and discomfort.

*big hugs to you all*

I take it...

Yes, both it and that pun do indeed stand out painfully. ;)

Thanks for taking it well. I realize that I might have been insensitive with my response.

Hugs in return.

I'm getting used to puns

I get so many of them in story comments. I've also seen enough of your comments to realize that you weren't saying it to be mean or insensitive. Besides, if we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at? ;)

I'm hoping so too, I can get by typing without my thumb but it's a painful distraction, especially if I move it the wrong way.

Cold then heat

erin's picture

Cold on such an injury for the first 12 to 24 hours, then heat afterwards. Mild pain relievers may help. If it persists or the pain grows unreasonably, see a doctor. I have loose joints so I get these every year or two. It's much worse when it's a big joint like a shoulder or a knee.

Hugs,
Erin

Yup

Thanks Erin,

I was putting cold compresses around the base of the thumb last night and I'll keep doing so until Martin gets home with something to take the swelling down a bit and to keep me from moving it too much. I've had enough ankle and knee sprains while dancing to know what too expect. It's not near as bad as when I've done that, it's just persistently annoying while I'm trying to get writing done and I need to take breaks a bit more often not to strain it overly much.

Heat is wrong......

D. Eden's picture

For sprains or strains, heat is not recommended.

The rule is ice for new injuries, and heat for chronic pains.

For strains or sprains, the term is RICE. R is for REST, I is for ICE, C is for COMPRESSION, and E is for ELEVATION. Cold helps to constrict the blood vessels and keep the swelling down - a mild anti-inflammatory is usually recommended as well.

Heat is more appropriate for chronic pains and the use of heat after one day is no longer recommended for sprains and strains.

And on that note, take care of yourself honey.

Martin wrapped it up so it's

Amethyst's picture

Martin wrapped it up so it's not moving around too much, but not cutting off my circulation either and I'm taking anti-inflammatories. He checked with the pharmacist and ibuprofin is fine to use with my anxiety meds. I'm trying to take regualar rest breaks to give it a bit of rest and elevate it as well. It's slowing me down work-wise, but at least I'm getting something done. I'd go stir-crazy if I couldn't do something.
