Hostility Triggers
Being an amateur Sociology Student, my THEORY is that groups of humans are easily led by an Alpha. I was going to say, "Alpha Male" but I do not want to arouse anyone's ire. So, whoever the Alpha is, can set the mood of the group. The present state of our culture, in my opinion, is triggered by an angry leader who does his best to incite antisocial activity in the group.
We have -LOTS- of 'third
We have -LOTS- of 'third parties'. The issue is that the Demopublicans have worked between themselves to make sure that no additional parties can get any traction. Specifically, the 'matching funds' go to parties that are already established. You almost have to win the election _first_ to even be able to apply for them.
Pick a party you like, and vote for THAT person. If enough people voted for any third party - they wouldn't necessarily win, but they'd finally be seen as a reason to start true reform.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

I've often been told that I look in my late 50s. (Actually 73). I say that my lack of Testosterone, no smoking, little or no booze and other toxic substances, along with Estrogen have done that. :)

does it not? Isn't there some rule about the POTUS having to be 'Born in the USA'. There was all that kerfuffle about Pres Obama. A good number of people firmly believe that he's a Muslim and was born in Kenya (or worse).
But if I could vote for her then I would.
Our bumbling Idiot of a PM was born in NYC. I'd send him back there if I ever got into a position of power (which is unlikely and I would also feel sorry for NYC)

You just have to prove that you already lived in the US when the constitution entered into force.
The first president born in the US was either Martin van Buren or John Tyler depending on which side of the border the only president who didn't speak English as his first language was born.

Actually, you have to be a citizen at birth. Children born abroad of at least one US citizen parent can be natural born citizens. This was an issue for John McCain, born at a US Navy base in the Panama Canal Zone; Ted Cruz, born in Calgary, Alberta; and George Romney, born in Mexico, just to cite three during my lifetime.

Back in the ‘80s I developed a theory about American National politics. At the time Helen Chenowith, the militia congresswoman from Idaho, was in Office. Her claim to forever fame is the statement that salmon runs were fine because there was plenty of canned salmon on the shelf in her grocery store.
My theory is that we have given up on electing competent people to office. We are now voting for the person who we believe will be the most entertaining during their term in office. (This cleanly explains how party hearty frat boy W beat wooden Al.) I call this the reality politics theory! (As seen on TV....)

It's mostly name recognition
It's mostly name recognition and "single party" voting.
That's why - finally - Texas pulled the ability for someone to just put "Vote for Everyone Democratic/Republican" off of the voting machines. You have to vote for each race individually.
My folks run/ran the local poll. They said it was absolutely astonishing the number of people that would walk up to a machine, punch one button, enter a vote, then walk off. It was clear that they were "Single Party Ticket" voting.
Too many people have no clue about any of the races, or the things on which they are voting. That's bad enough, but then they _vote_ in the races they don't understand. If I'm not sure who the people are who are running - I don't vote in that election. In some cases, it's a county-wide vote, but for a county judge 60 miles away that I'll never see, and I certainly don't know anything about the area.
