Dear readers and fans,
I am close to completing my latest novel, Deimos. Here is the summary:
In the near future, life is much like it is today, but things are about to get complicated for Grayson Nash. As co-founder of the tech company Deimos, Grayson has taken the company from a pair of repurposed servers in a basement suite to a global mega corporation worth trillions of dollars. Over the years, Grayson had slowly been pushed to the side in favor of younger and more aggressive employees. He was removed from the board as he rejected the new direction the company was taking. Deimos had inserted itself into nearly every aspect of people’s lives and if Grayson’s suspicions were correct, things might be even worse than he thought.
This is a TG story with lots of introspection and adventure. My dilemma is whether or not I should post it here or publish it on Amazon. On one hand, I want to give to this community and on the other, I really want to see if one of my stories is worthy of publishing.
I would love to hear your thoughts.

I really like the way you write. As to where you publish it, that's up to you. Apparently there have been issues with Amazon paying recently, but I do not know the details.

There are ways to have your cake and eat it too. As I said in the other thread, Opt out of KDP, this relieves you of giving up the right to publish elsewhere. You can leave it here and publish elsewhere such as Smashwords. For a list of where Smashwords distributes, go here You get a much wider distribution, get to keep your stories up here and retain the right to publish where you want.

...here. But there's no question in my mind that the quality of your plotting and writing is as good as or superior to many of our published writers.

Your writing is really well done, however if you post it here first you can get feedback and maybe improve the story before you publish it. I’ve also heard about problems with payment lately from Amazon.

... and Deimos are Mars's two moons. They were Greek words for fear and panic. (In astronomy class, I sometimes mentioned that, shortly before the first test.) Was the corporation's name meaningful in that respect?

What are you looking for?
Money? You won't make enough to buy coffee -- unless you get Amazon to take it out of their category for trans books.
Feedback - the feedback on Amazon is sparse and nasty at times.
I've sold about a dozen titles on Amazon. Erin tells me she's made some money from them. Now they're sold all over the internet by people I don't know who pay me nothing (nor Erin).
I publish my stories here for a limited amount of time, usually sixty days. Then Erin publishes them through Doppler on Amazon. That works for me. Erin gets all the proceeds on Amazon.
Your book sounds interesting. Your writing is excellent. I'll buy it -- for sure.

If you're looking for a lot of money, Amazon isn't really the way to go. I've posted half a dozen myself and the payoff at the end of the month is not great. I find you get a nice burst of cash after your first month of publishing but it burns off rather quickly.
I love your stories
You're a great writer with tons of imagination.
I would relish the chance to buy a book of yours at Amazon.
I don't know if there are lots of others, but I know I'd buy anything you write.
There are publishers out there
who actuallypay advances, if they like your work. Have a look at Riptide Publishing. As to distribution networks smashwords is very good and varied.
Amazon is one of my pet peeves, they even bought Goodreads to enhance their monopoly, now you cannot even do give-aways there any more unless you pay Amazon to do them for you (and of course publish your book). Do I need to mention I don't like them?
We might just need to look elsewhere for our books. My latest, Foreign influence, is definitely going to Riptide first to see if they like it. I'll keep you posted.
You have no reason to be hesitant as to "proper" publishing, Casey, your stories are always first class.

What about posting it here AND then publishing it at Amazon? I guess you won't lose buyers - actually the opposite.
I agree with..
Many commenters, about Amazon to an extent. It isn't worth while if you only have a few books, but if you were able to follow Michael Anderell's example, meaning a book a month it could work. He went from a 9 to 5 jib to professional author in just over a year. He now runs his own publishing company. LMBPN Publishing. Maybe he'd be willing to start a TG series. Just an idea.
