I don't know how it would be done but there needs to be a way to remove an image from a story. Some image take the front page from publicly suitable to NSFW or in my case in public. I'fe tried the ignore function but the images remain. Once upon a time I could block certain images but that was on a Windows machine and I'm using an Android tablet.

Being unemployed I sometimes take my tablet and go drink some coffee, just to get out of the house. But an image pops up from time to time that I wouldn't want somebody walking by or looking over my shoulder to see.

PS: I'm not saying that the authors need to stop using whatever image they want, I just want to stop them on my machine.

Way back when

I seem to recall that back in the dark ages when internet access was dial-up using 9600 baud (or 14,400 if you were lucky) modems, you could turn off images in some browsers to speed up the display time for each page. Another useful feature disappears with progress.

Firefox for Android does what you want

It appears that Chrome for Android no longer has a setting to not load images. However, Firefox for Android does. Go to the Advanced settings and look for Show Images. Set it to Blocked.

I'll ask Piper if there is an option we can offer.

Block images

Some suggestions found by Googling the problem:

Safari:

  • On a Mac you can block images from loading using the Develop menu.
  • Go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced then select: Show Develop menu in menu bar
  • Then go to the Safari menu bar, click Develop > Disable Images

Chrome:

  • Go to chrome://settings/content/images
  • Either block all images and add a white list of sites to allow images
  • Or allow all images and add a black list of sites where images are not allowed.

The Chrome hack works on a Chromebook (and probably on the desktop program) but doesn't seem to work on Android.

NSFW content

the recent change to the home page here that has the top advert hard coded as a .jpg could well be an issue for some of us.
I'm writing this comment sitting in a Starbucks so they haven't blocked the site unlike some other Cafe's but the large text of the advert could be an issue if I was sitting somewhere that I could be overlooked.
Today, I can't be overlooked but that is not always the case.

Thanks all! This gives me options, now to decide what works best.

Erin: It never occured to me to check the android store!
