I've been watching a TV feed out of New Orleans, and there are some problems starting to occur with water over-topping the levees in places. Say a prayer to the deity of your choice. So far things are doing fairly well, all things considered.
Now, I'd like to suggest that those who can should contribute to the disaster relief organization of your choice. A lot of people were evacuated this time, and considerable resources are being expended in the various host cities to provide these people with semi-decent places to sleep and eat. The American Red Cross and The Salvation Army as well as other faith-based groups could use any help they can get. Due to my health, I'm no longer a first-wave Red Cross volunteer, but I am on alert, just in case. It's too late now to be trained to assist, but money is always appreciated.
Oops, the feed for the NOLA TV station I was watching just failed.

NOLA Update
Well, things are stable at this time, although the combination of southerly winds, the heavy rains and incoming high tides mean that conditions are still risky for NOLA and surrounding towns for the next six hours at least. The TV had footage of the Mississippi River flowing backwards due to the winds and tidal surge.
Hope I'm not boring y'all too much, when you live in this area of the U.S. you become interested in weather very early in life. New Orleans is close enough to feel a kinship to, but far enough away I can watch events unfold in rapt fascination. Certainly more interesting than watching the political convention!

Those of us with family...
... in the area have kept fairly close tabs on things... Having spent days (almost a week) without contact durring Katrina, it's kinda important to me (& I believe others). Thanks for posting the information and others for posting links.
