re reading Tanya Allan's "Shit Happens, But So Do Miracles!"

and was reminded of another story, similar in that the protagonist is in the entertainment business.

Parents split up during school years, dad is a bit of a crook?, definitely unfaithful and looses everything, turns up at hotel appearing to have neither changed clothes or bathed for a while (possibly had been drinking)

She gives him second chance, takes him on as her personal financial advisor but with lots of checks and balances.

this all comes in the latter part of the tale.
