Wow!
Ok, my life has entered what I believe to be the 'final' phase.
The last piece of inheritance from my father (who died in 1973) has been sold.
My brother was in charge of all the negotiations and so on, and ripped off my sister and I, so there is a major change in my relationships. I will never have any other major injection of funds in what remains of my life. I am beyond retirement age, and my SO (Diana) will achieve that milestone later this year.
So we live in Switzerland (and will do until Diana finally decides to stop being a hotel manager) whereupon the current plan is that we shall move to the UK - a sort of Brentry rather than a Brexit.
To that end, I investigated what is required to live a reasonable life in the UK. First and foremost is that we need a good(ish) credit rating, which of course we do NOT have as we don't live there.
To that end, I have taken out a small apartment. Now, we had difficulty renting any apartment because we didn't have a credit history.
When pressed, I always got the same answer "This is to prevent money laundering."
So in the end, I have spent the money for a complete year's rent, paid up front, to secure this apartment. "Money Laundering", huh?
I have also purchased a new car for use in the UK.
I have also paid our rent until the end of this year in Switzerland.
Now, running two establishments means that I needed to purchase a bed. So that has been purchased, And another set (reduced) of kitchen equipment. Another 'dust sucker' as the Germans call a Hoover. House insurance. And so on, and so on.
All of this done via the Internet and using my money, in my UK bank account, and my UK bank account debit card. I can tell you now that all in all, I have given out over 100k British pounds. But everything is now paid for. (Including a hefty contribution to the Hatbox)
Except ...
I wanted a broadband, landline, wifi, mobile phone set-up.
So, in order to arrange an appointment for the BT engineer to arrive to connect everything, they needed to run a token payment across my Debit Card of £2.
Guess what!
Because the 'billing address' on the account is NOT in the UK, their systems can't cope.
So for the want of £2, I can't get a telephone engineer to call.
This is where my greatest expenditure has now occurred.
That of my TIME.
Over 375 minutes of international telephone calls, at over £60 in cost, to achieve nothing.
I have to wait until I move in before I can arrange a telephone engineer to call.
They require two or three weeks before they can turn up !!!!!!!!!!!
Guess what, part two!
We are in England for only one week to receive the keys and so on. Have the bed delivered, and so on. After one week, we are both required to go back to work in the hotel! The next time we will be in England will be in a month's time ... again for just one week.
All in all, this means that I have had so very little time to progress Julina.
But a new episode will be up this weekend.
And guess what, part three!
Her life finishes an old phase, and enters a new one.
Hugs an all, to y'all.
Julia.

living
In the UK sucks. I would've saved my money and stayed away. Everything is a hassle, I can't get home internet without coughing up everything up front - I could do that but I don't see why I should.
Hope your plans work out but i'd happily get out of this cess pit of self serving politicians, jobs worths and selfish bigots - and that's just the immigrants!

Moving to the UK
I was strongly contemplating a move to the UK, from America, but after looking into the matter I found I don't make enough on my retirement to live there. Sad actually. At this time, returning to the Middle East is even less appealing, and it is not expected to get better.
don't
Feel too bad - I along with half the UK population don't make the cut either!
If i'm lucky I'll make 12k this year - enough to live on just about but with successive govts claiming that the average income is 26k - well you see the issue right there.
