I really don't want to sound needy or pitiful, but I truly need a proof reader. I am a novice writer, retired and in my mid sixties. So, now have some time to write the type of fiction that I loved to read for most of my life. Although years of writing clinical notes has killed most my grammar skills, that I am just not starting to remember. So if you have time and patience to work with and old novice please let me know.

About how many words to your story?
Age of the protagonist.
For example; I prefer NOT to get involved in Serials . . . or any stories that involve magic, children as the main character, or any universe.
More suggestions. Before you take on an editor, read a few of her stories to see if her voice is compatible with yours. Before I take on an "old novice" I usually recommend they read http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/21855/swifter-higher-s... to see if they like my approach to story-telling. Every editor will naturally shape your writing toward an approximation of her style.
Make sure your editor understands that it is YOUR story and that while your appreciate suggestions you have definite ideas about what you want to write and how you want to say it. If she becomes too directive, gently tell her to play nice -- or take a timeout.
