"American Girl" dolls, those are actually a fair bit after my time, appropriate age wise anyway.
However, when they came out I really wanted one, even though in I was technically to old for them. I eventually even went so far as to get on the catalog mailing list, I was to afraid of what family might think if I actually ordered one, so I never did. The catalog? Umm..... "Ida Noe how I got on the mailing list, mailing lists are weird." As you likely guessed my age was not the reason I did not order it. How, oh how would I possibly explain a "boy" ordering a dolly for "himself". I wish I had though, I wish a lot of other things too.

They're Cute!
So I might have a small collection of them... One for each of them that appear in my books actually. They were rewards to myself for finishing them ;-). They sit on a shelf with some stuffed animals in my room. I wish I was a little girl and able to go into the stores and enjoy the full experience. AG has a high price attached to their dolls in some ways, but it's neat how the staff interacts with the dolls as well as the girls. I think that's why they've been able to expand so much the last ten years across the country.

I've got to know AG from your stories last year and have fallen in love with them.
Dolls
I guess it was the "boy" in me, but I found dolls rather boring. They were cute and all, but there's only so many times you could dress them and undress them before it got tedious. I had a few Cabbage Patch Kids though, and it was more fun to play house with them and my other stuffed animals. In fact, playing house was probably my favorite thing to do, aside from Legos. I just never let my girl friends in on the fact that I secretly enjoyed playing house. They probably knew anyway.

My AG Family.
I have a cherished collection of Loved Friends from AG. They are like family to me (as are my stuffed animals honestly). I know it's childish, and in some ways considered unhealthy to some, I have a loving Fiance, a wonderful NinjaBaby (who isn't really a baby anymore) anda functioning life, so I don't see where it hurts.

I was looking for one but when I saw the price, it was a turn off.

I did get,...
...and still have a large number of "plush toys" aka "stuffies"(stuffed toy animals). My family seemed to be in to those, and still are. This was helped along by a relative being sort of connected with the amusement park business. The stuffies were always more like people to me, rather then creatures, although they were animal people.
I still keep the last Teddy I got from my Mom on my bed. His name is Bernard! :D
