Wow, so as I mentioned before I've been reading Gaby books in my spare time pretty much nonstop since I came across them a couple weeks ago. I'm not really a very emotional person, but try as I might I'm not Vulcan. My whole life I've always considered emotional expression kind of pathetic, I mean that's even what the word means, Pathos from Greek. I try hard to hide emotions most of the time. My wife is the opposite. I'm sure some of that is biological, but I'm also quite sure that I'm just acting as I've been trained and expected to act as a male.

In a movie it takes a really intensely emotional scene to really break me down and force a tear, it doesn't happen very often. In books it happens a bit more often as when I'm reading a long book I often find myself more invested in a character. Well anyway, I've almost finished the the third Gaby book, Visitors. I've found the author uses foreshadowing a lot, which I really like. I had this sneaking suspicion that Drew's Mom would be leaving the family, but at the same time I didn't really believe it would happen. As I said earlier I've come to view Gaby as this magical escapism where nothing actually bad ever happens. When it happened I was reduced to tears. It was so strange to feel so much emotion from a book.

Of course in almost every chapter something goofy "accidently" happens forcing Drew to be Gaby and I've found myself actually laughing out loud, or even saying something like, "That figures," or "Gosh Drew, again."

I just can't believe how much I'm enjoying this series.

I'm sure

my good friend, Maddy Bell, will be delighted to hear how much you're enjoying her creation.

After you've read about the trip to America

Or several books later, you might want to read the story here "Drew's Meltdown".

It's a bit revisionist, but it tries to answer some questions I've had after reading the whole series 4 times.

Funny to see your comments

I just recently started re-reading the whole series. Half way through "The Visitors" so I have a lot of reading to do before I catch up. So much I didn't remember, almost like reading something new except for vague memories that pop up now and then. Also frequent confusion with PB's "Notes of a Journey" fanfic.

Yes... Gaby -The Visitors

That is the one Gaby book I do not re-read. it gives me too much mental pain which I do not cope with well nowadays.

The rest I love and among whatever books I am reading at any one time, one of them will always be one of Gaby's or Nena's books. When reading Gaby -The Visitors, it is the only time I have ever checked the next book to make sure of a happy ending, or it would have killed the series stone dead for me.

I'm happy to say I am still a Gaby-Addict.

Gaby Question

For all of you hard-core Gaby fans, could you clarify something please?

I have read them all on Amazon, but there was one particular scene in Gaby-Bits that left me confused.

In one of the chapters, Drew's parents were out of town and phoned him. The constant ringing eventually woke him up and they were angry when they discovered that Juliette had been out all night and had yet to return home.

After the call, Drew found a desperate message on his phone from Jules, but when he tried her phone it went to voice message.

I never saw a further reference to the episode, although there were many oblique references about the strain between Jules and her parents.

Can someone point out a page or chapter in the series that clears this up? It has been bugging me like crazy.

I think the answer comes in a later book...

Jules had lent her Motor scooter thing to a friend who crashed it and so she could not get home by her mid-night curfew (well not get home at all) and was trying to ring Drew to cover for her when the parents rang to check she was home. I think (ok, not sure) that Drew had let his mobile phone battery go dead (again) or had forgotten to take it with him so he missed her calls.

Well that's what my old memory tells me!

I got the impression that was it, as a later book mentioned her having loaned the scooter to a person that wrecked it. It was just not clear to me whether the two events were connected.

I suppose I just wanted to see the conflict/resolution between Dave Bond and Juliette. Jules has been very oppositional since their Mother's off the rail health issue. I really like Jules and I see her as two different characters. There is the brash and angry girl that Drew calls "the Dark One" and then there is the loving and caring sister who seems to have had her heart ripped out.
