I just came across the transition of radio presenter Stephanie Hirst and it included such positive support from her friends and fans that it bears posting as a balance to all the reports of violence and rejection
Almost giving up
Announcing on air that she is transgender with at the end the decision, strongly encouraged by the interviewer, that this was her last day presenting as male

is becoming more sympathetic towards employees - a few years ago it wouldn't have happened, not in regular programme presentation. Perhaps I should offer my services for Nature Watch?

Gender is no longer an issue but…
… as much as I would enjoy the view of you ‘going for a tramp in the woods’ - as I’m sure would the tramp - the media have not often made exceptions for we women of a certain age (and over). An exception was Sister Wendy so to get the gig you might have to don a nun’s habit Angharad - either that or leave those jobs to Cathy.
