Due to circumstances beyond my control (namely kids off for the summer), I haven't been able to do much writing lately. So hopefully by the end of August, I'll start having some time to write with one back in school and the other out of town at college. I have several projects languishing, and some new ones I want to start, plus I want to get a novel published.
There's a few other things draining my soul as well, such as the city threatening me with fines about the remains of my tree and metal building that were destroyed by storms. They seem to think I have money to waste of that useless crap rather than feeding and housing my kid. Plus working for the dumbest man to ever be called a manager. He can't manage a box of rocks. He has no business managing people much less an IT department.
Now I'm rambling...

That's a thing about IT managers...
Most of the IT people I know will do anything to avoid being managers. And if they are forced to manage some team - they are not very good at it.
So it either one of two: IT guy who has no idea how to be a manager, or some manager who has no idea about IT. I am still to figure which one is worse...
So don't worry, be happy: there is a good thing about manager who has no idea about IT: you can do anything you like and explain it's importance in terms he can't understand. And good thing about IT guy turned manager is you can do anything you like and explain it as very important then sidetracking him into discussing some technical quirk of what you are doing. :-)
(have no idea how to explain abovementioned ideas in PC way to include female managers... Sorry...)

Check out "Winning With The Boss From Hell" by Shaun Belding. There's 33 pages available to read on Google Books, and the book is available on Amazon (so you can get it through the BC Amazon link).
I'm not saying it's 100% perfect, because he admits (not in the book) that the IT world is different from anything else, but it might just help. Reading on Google books will tell you if you think it's worth it.
