I finally did it. I acquired pure capsaicin crystals. And I then tried them. Not straight mind you. You can actually put all the pure capsaicin crystals you want in your mouth. They're not water soluble and require a fat or oil to dissolve so saliva won't work. The stuff came with a tiny bottle of glycerine which I did mix them into and try.
Not as hot as I thought it would be. The previous highest scoville unit thing I had was this 4.4 million sauce. The 16 mil is hotter, but it doesn't seem by much.
So that leaves me with nothing extreme that's relatively *safe* as far as food and drink goes.
So I need ideas because I have no idea what's out there in the world as far as extreme and unique food go.
Please give me ideas.
Preferably ideas that...
1)can be acquired local within the US, and don't have to be ordered from another country and imported.
2)are things that most people would scoff at or forgo even a taste knowing they could spit it out
3)are as close to one ingredient dishes or can be served by itself
So for example, I've had Jackfruit within the last two months because a group of friends and I stumbled upon it at a Kroger and I couldn't pass up buying it. It was delicious. Never had it before. I don't expect to ever have it again, but I've had it now.
So please, give me ideas. I don't care what it tastes like, smells of, how it looks, or how it feels so long as it's a legitimate food item.
On a side note. I'm still writing. I just have quite a number of things I'm writing on and I tend to do a little bit on everything. This means that I'm slow overall. Sorry if you happen to be waiting on more of my writing to be completed.

I have had cow tongue but none of the rest. I just put in an order for sheep brain and tamarind so I'll be getting that in a few days.

I have not tried a haggis but I have tried spam which is technically a pudding. I know they are nothing alike though. I'm going to order some right away and try it.
As for Poutine, I've had the stuff that goes into Poutine, just not together so i'm going to pass on that. Each of the 3 ingredients are easily obtainable. I'm looking for the uncommon or rare item that would be seen as extreme or gross.

I've not had that before but
I've not had that before but I have had pig tripe. The closest thing I've done was deep fried chicken skin that I marinaded.

Stuff
I've eaten some odd things in the way of meats. Kangaroo tastes beef-like or mutton-like. Alligator tastes like langostino, sort of, but the texture is different. Frog legs taste like fishy chicken. Snails taste like garlic butter. :) Crawdads taste like shrimp, sort of. Abalone tastes like clam or calamari, somewhere in between. Shark is just fish, as far as I could tell, not particularly strong flavored. Chocolate covered ants taste like chocolate with a bit of vinegar.
I'm probably not much help, am I? There are various organ meats but they aren't particularly hard to get, at least from domestic animals if you have a real butcher shop nearby.

Most of this stuff is going on my list of things to try. I've had alligator, shark, and frog legs. I have about 3.5 lbs left of the frog legs in my freezer right now.
There's a few butcher stores around her that I'm going to check out. There's a really good one about an hours drive away from me that I go to once or twice a year.
