Just for fun I played around with the notion of having my fictional characters all get together at a party. Doing this I realised I lack fantasy when it comes to naming the boys. Most are called Peter, if not they are usually named Harry.
To avoid confusion I’ve given everyone a number according to story in chronological order (listed below).
On the floor a number of couples are dancing. Most of them we have still to get to know. On the edge of the crowd Dave (8) is slowly dancing with his little sister. They will be leaving soon. The sister is looking up at her brother with a happy smile. She is really happy she was allowed to come and she has had a great evening. Dave is really pleased too. Not only because his sister is so happy but also because she has been handling the party so well. And he’s even more happy that it was his sister that told their parents that big boys don’t wear little girl’s dresses. So this time he’s wearing an age appropriate dress. Hopefully the next step will be for her to realise the difference between girls and boys.
Near the snacks we find some rather big girls, Elisabeth (12) and Danielle (11), talking football with Peter Worlowski (13) and Peter the Jock (14). Peter’s Worlowski’s skirt and shirt look very nice and this evening he has put on some make-up again. Pity about the hairy legs though. Everyone likes Elisabeth now. Once her gender issue was sort of handled she has become a really nice person. It’s rather ironic that’s only now that’s she’s Elisabeth that she is welcome in the football team.
Over in a corner Danielle’s boyfriend Harry (11) and Annie (14) are trying to teach some boys we don’t know yet a couple of cheerleading moves. The boy with the tenting cheerleader skirt has hidden somewhere.
Unfortunately it is hard to avoid seeing Pauline (6) dancing. She has chosen one of those awful pink dresses of hers again. That means that we will find Paul (6) sulking in a corner. Yes, there he is. He has ditched his girlfriend’s brother Harry (9) who escorted him. Somewhere in the shadows there I think I got a glance of a tall boy in a pink unitard. I’m afraid that’s all we ever will see of him.
On the dance floor we also find Harry and Andie (13) as well as Peter (12) and his girlfriend Sharon (12). I’m a bit disappointed. I had hoped that he’d be wearing the skirt he got from Elisabeth/Hank (12) but apparently he is all boy.
Not far away we find Mark and Sammie (14). It’s a good thing Sammie has Mark to lean on in more ways than one. The last few weeks have been rather overwhelming for her. Fortunately she has the support not only of her parents but also of most of her old friends. Over at the back I think I can see Lisa (2) but I can’t really make out whether her partner is John (2) or not. Sam and Audrey (10) make a nice couple swirling around. I was kind of hoping he would fall for Audrey in the end but thats not happening. Let's hope that Sam will find someone at the party he really likes. Perhaps Audrey is too girly and tomboyish Judy (1) is the right one for him? Here she’s coming in his direction with two glasses of punch. No, she’s heading towards the group at the snacks. Oh, now I see that Peter Worlowski is wearing a silk skirt and shirt matching Judy’s. Well, as Judy undoubtedly told Peter silk does give a very nice feeling, not only swishing against them legs.
Bill the Drug Addict (14) is dancing with Judy’s brother Peter (1). I’m not sure whether Bill realises that the Lolita wannabe he’s dancing with is a boy or, for that matter, whether he cares.
John (3) is dancing with Pauline. He has been set up once more by his sister so he is wearing a skirt tonight as well. Only this time it IS black. His headmaster looks at him, sighs and turns back to the other Headmasters/Principals at the table they are sitting at. At their table we also find the pretty Mr. Ingram(4). The rather thelf-contheited young man ith very pleathed with himthelf becauthe earlier in the day he thcored a thentury.
Young Peter (5) is running around and in general making a nuisance of himself. Of course he’s wearing his favorite skirt.

Someone gave me the www.ssa.gov link for the Social Security list of popular baby names. You can use that for more variety in your names. (A few times, I've been known to make up last names.)
Your story reminded me of Mercedes Lackey's short story, "After Midnight". https://web.archive.org/web/20100308102941/http://www.firebi..., but in this case, the author wakes up to find all her principal characters around her bed, with complaints about how they've been treated.

Thank you for the links
I finally got around to read the short story. Very amusing! We'll see if it triggers one of my sporadic small writing bursts.
