I am writing this for those of you who do the change on a Birth certificate. I had problems after my surgery with the state of Minnesota. I went through the county I was born in, then had to file a state application. Even with a judges signature on the change of name and a certified copy from the physician. the state and county did not tell me the amount I had to pay. I had to send a certified check to the state of Minnesota and I had already sent one to the county as I had talked with them. The state of Minnesota is run by idiots in the sense I had to talk to the lady doing my paperwork because she had questions. Odd I filled out their state application and she still called.
it took me seven months to get my birth certificate changed.
The surgery went well. I healed quickly and I am settled in as a female..
I can absolutely say I have no regrets and as far as coming out of surgery. I was ecstatic but also sore.
I tell people in my entire life I have no regrets in the way I grew up. I wouldn't trade it for something different. I learned lessons, learned about people and the paths I walked were just for me. It made mw the woman I am today.

Birth Certificate...
I'm very happy that you were finally able to get it straightened out Jill!
I had my surgery in Thailand in 1999 but had held off on getting the gender changed on my birth certificate in Kentucky because when I had my name changed in 1998 the law in my state stated that the registrar was to 'strike a single line through the old name and type in the new name beside the old one', after paying to have my name changed and being able to plainly see the old one beside it was distressing so I never bothered with the gender portion. I held off till early this year before I finally broke down and called the Kentucky Office of Vital Statistics in Frankfort to see how to get my gender changed on my BC. They wouldn't accept an original letter from my surgeon in Thailand telling me that I needed to have a letter from a US Doctor stating that they had examined me and that I'd had the surgery.
I got in contact with my old therapist who is also a good friend these days and he found me a sympathetic MD to look at me and send the state a notarized letter. I was VERY pleased when the new BC came in and it was completely different from the older one's and only shows my female name and Female in the gender section!!!

It would seem that there are some differences between the U.S. and here in the UK, I transitioned eleven years ago, at first I did the name change then after GRS I went before the Gender Recognition Panel which after reading declarations from your doctor and therapist my birth certificate was changed to reflect my gender all very simple and quite fast.
I got all my UK qualifications changed very quickly then it came to my Phd which I got at MIT, this took an age to reflect my new sex far longer than any other change - strange.
Like you I am blissfully happy and also I am successful in my field, but one thing I have found is that a woman has to be twice as good as a man - which we are and we special women have one great advantage in that we have an idea how men operate!
