Months to get the letter referring me to the Chief Assessor, then I hear in the outgoing message from her office no funds for assessing until April.

Yesterday morning I get a phone call, go to Vancouver General Hospital this morning for a video conference with 2 Assessors.

ok, did that, now I get to wait for 3 months while the government does their thing. aww crap, Christmas season, government doesn't work for December, so make that 4 months I bet.
if the decide to follow the Assessor's recommendation, I'll be getting a letter saying I have been approved for funding, then I get to go to my doctor and get a referral to the only facility in Canada doing the SRS, in Montreal. Then it's wait for them to mail me their information package and schedule the surgery.

but for all intents and purposes, I should be completely post op before this time next year.

Been there

All the hoop jumping will be well worth it once you get funding and your referral. It can take a few months and then several more for the surgery date in Montreal unless you get an earlier appointment on a cancellation like I did. I couldn't be happier with the results I got from Brassard and Belanger. They're both very nice as well with a good bedside manner. I was living in Vancouver when I got my referral and surgery but I'm in Montreal now and my Friday dance class is only a few blocks away from his clinic and the recovery house. I hope everything goes well for you.

Varied styles

some line dances and choreographies for various styles, did a Samba today for the first time and that was fun and we do big choreographies for shows based on ballroom and other styles that we perform in a few times a year. I enjoy ballet as well, but I don't get to practice that much.

I never studied ballet, but one of my fellow students from the studio I was taking lessons with retired after 20 years with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She was stunned at how flexible I am, I could push her for the stretches to maintain the flexibility like no-one else she had ever met, that didn't study and actively practice ballet. :)

gotta like it when the assessors make their decision, in your favour, in 30 minutes of a 60 minute meeting. :)

having a history

with both prior instances of a "gender clinic" in Vancouver [ same Psychiatrist* at both even ] probably makes it even easier for them to make a positive decision. ;)

the old "Sexual Medicine" clinic at Shaunessy Hospital in the 70s and the Sexual Medicine clinic at VGH in the 90s.

* She actually founded the VGH clinic and remembered me from our first sessions (for cross dressing), when I was 10.
