I have a problem and im stumped. I have written a story almost to the middle. I think its good but not as written. I have thought of a better way to start it and write the first half. It wont change my plans for the second half. But, its a totally different start up to the half point. What do I do? Just write it from then and later change the start, or rewrite the whole damn thing
Have any of you writers here even encountered a problem like this and what did you do
Comments
I'm pretty much dealing with this right now.
The best bet, in my opinion, would be to write your new opening, then see how it fits with your original second half. Rewriting will potentially change a lot of elements of the story's tone, so checking that everything still feels cohesive is important. If it all feels good, great! Otherwise, a rewrite/significant edit may be in order.

Writing to a dead end
You pretty much have to be ruthless. One story, my first "mummy" story, I liked the beginning but after they wound up in the past I hated it. I reworked that section about three times before I got what I wanted.

Re writing
In the Early 80's, before the net, I wrote a book on an electric type writer. Major changes meant throwing away pages and doing them again. At least now days you have cut and paste, spell checkers, and hard drives.

finish
I recommend you finish the story. After you have a completed story let it sit for a week or two before reading it, or editing. It is always best to complete a first draft, then edit, edit, edit as many times as needed.
