Database got corrupted during power flux at ISP. Spent almost 3 hours repairing it. Going to bed. Some data (node counters, history, logs) rolled back to previous week. Sorry about that.

Database errors

Somehow, we seem to have lost most of the hit counter information back to sometime in January. I'm baffled. The backup I used was from night before last, should have lost only one day on the hit counters.

Since the site is running okay now, just the hit counters and history file gone blooey, I think I'm going back to bed.

Counters

Okay, I got the counters back, mostly, except for stories posted most recently. Best I can do, with Bob's help and advice.

Crash, Bang, Zoom

Earlier this morning I saw that the counters had reset back to zero on my three most recent stories. They're back now. Thanks.

Oh well, shit happens. The important thing is the stories...

are here and the anti-contest people seem to have won a round. Next thing you know we'll have the stories censored for content if they contain the word "contest" in them. Just kidding! Take it easy! Chuckle, chuckle...

Great job on the repairs Erin and Bob!

Now, question, are the comments still on for all the stories or are some like the screw up still blocked?

Once blocked do they all ways stay blocked?

Just wondering because I'm about to add a few new stories since my writers block I suffer from is preventing me from adding to and finishing some of my older stories.

I tend to get some very interesting comments for my stories. I know I'm a bit controversial in my subject matter, but hey, that's real life! I can't help it if those moral upstanding readers can't handle real life issues! GEEZE!

Blocked comments on some older stories

erin's picture

There are a dozen or two old stories moved over from an earlier version of BC that got new comments blocked during the changeover. If you have one of those stories, and you want commenting turned back on tell me the name of the story. I assume you mean "The Screw-up" above? I'll take a look at it.

Thank you for all your hard work. I saw something was screwy last night (14 hours ago), but decided to wait until morning before writing. and now, voila, you've already fixed the bugs! Hugs, Daphne

I read this last night and I was all silent sulky martyr type as my last two little thingies got zeroed and even if there's dozens of others in the same boat it's a personal thing for the poor fragile little authory ego. Zero hits suddenly, weeks after the event.... sigh... and then the sun rises and alls right with the world. Funny how that equates to hits and the like. Such fragile critters aint we.

Ah Erin ya's a bleedin' marvel ya is. Yes I know I mash English but hey why not. Dearest Erin we the poor and fragile spectral egos that toil in some vain hope of praise from afar... um is sucking up naughty? We loves ya, we really do.

I know how you feel

When FM stopped putting up the hit counters, I stopped posting there. Simple as that. Comments were a crapshoot at FM, some regular commenters there entertained themselves by being hurtful (or did at that time) without the hit counters there was insufficient reward for doing the work of getting a story posted. Since there were and are other places to post, (Lainie was running BC then), I put my stuff elsewhere. Even while I was still a volunteer at FM.

It's why when I took over BC (it was always on my server), I determined to run it for authors first. Readers and commenters are important too but without authors, there's no content. :)

Hugs,
- Erin
