Grasping at straws
My French is extremely poor but Esther Benbassa must be desperate for attention to use Eurovision to make any political point. Maybe as an ecologist she is commenting on feminising pollutants?

DQs stretch the definition of transgender honestly. This is performance art and not a question of identity or an expression of need like crossdressers. I don't think he is a transvestite frankly.
It is an act of tolerance, yes, but for the majority of people it muddys the transgenders such as those TS identified. The way he did his act was a GenderFuck and belong more in the GenderQueer spectrum of things.
Please ...
Do not judge others so harshly. I know many individuals, and each is unique and revealing in his or her own way. I treasure my few friends, am thankful for those who are comrades, and keep an eye on those who try to label me. I am who I am. He is who he is, and you are who you are. Differences are to be treasured. If everyone was the same ... it would be a boring world.
I have followed this individual when I heard about him. He is not transgendered, or transexual and freely admits it.

Nobody is judging is artistic talent or moral compass
He sings really well. He is probably a fine person, nobody is disputing that is probably the case. But the confusion he causes in ignorant people is a reality. It is the press who is framing him as being transgender and that needs to be corrected. The press is among those ignorant people unfortunately and in this hummingbird level attention span of the average person they will kneejerk their opinion out there and make a summary judgement very quickly. I doubt most have taken trans 101. Anyway, I have avoided drag shows ever since the time finally I understood the difference.
This has nothing to do with differences, good or bad. It just does not do the trans community any favors. I am sick and tired of DQs being pulled into the whole trans discussion on Huffington Post for example where they really do not belong.
BTW GenderFuck is not pejorative, that is the recognized term for what GenderQueers do.
Must be a French version
I can't seem to find it on the English language version.
I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.
