Highly LGBT question heavy survey?
I am hoping this was a coincidence.
And I hope I answered well.
I just got hit with one of those phone surveys, often I brush them off by saying "I am busy", this one called back however and I was not doing anything.
What I had not expected though was, "Most of the questions were LGBT related", they all were related to discrimination, public attitudes, and related legislation, plus personal opinion and position on these topics. While there were a handful of questions about race, nationality, religion and female gender relating to discrimination, the vast bulk of the questions were LGBT issues. And the questions seem to hit each of the LGBT issues from more then one direction.
Some of the subjects: Same sex marriage, child raising & adoption by trans or gay parents, bullying of Gay/Trans, Morality of being gay or trans, other's attitudes & perceived attitudes on it, religious attitudes on LGBT (acceptance or not), Discrimination against LGBT, laws and need for laws on these issues.

So How common are these surveys, And is Gay Lesbian Trans such a Hot-Topic right now? Do You think it was just a coinkydink?

PS. God, I hope assuming it was legit that I gave good helpful answers.
PPS. I don't do well on multiple choice Seems when given choices A, B, C or D, I often want too answer something like B but D too, or between C & D. lol

Lots of topics for different surveys...
I did the phone calls for surveys during college. As long as someone is willing to pay for it, most anyone will conduct the survey.
Nearly every reputable survey is done via random dialing, so it would be just a coincidence that you were called if it was a real survey firm.
As far as its usefulness, it will depend on who paid for it, so I really couldn't say.
I have never heard of a survay on trans people

What state?
If your state is coming up on the LGBT radar for any reason - anti-discrimination laws, equality laws, same-sex marriage, the repeal of such laws, pro or anti-gay political candidates, or anything similar then this could be the reason for the survey. The poll-takers should have identified who they were doing the polls for. The name given might be that of a front group but if they refuse to say I'd hang up. The last poll I took was very upfront about who they were and who they were polling for: "Hello, I'm from (XYZ) polling firm and we are conducting a poll for Reuters on the subject of . . . . Would you have time to answer some questions? It will take about 10 minutes of your time."
Be wary of any group that offers you a gift for answering the questions, they are trying to pre-shape your attitude. The questions will have a subtle bias that you might not even be aware. At one time I had a recorder on my phone and would record what was said for later analysis.
I'm no longer on the pollsters' radar so I don't get many survey questions anymore, one time was an obvious tea party front group. Questions like "On a scale of one to five, how badly has Obamacare impacted your health insurance coverage." The scale ran from one: not too badly, to five: extremely bad. Bzzt! Don't call me anymore!
