Yesterday I had my court date for name change. The whole process to this date had been a bit time consuming but not difficult. Basically I had to supply a SLED(Criminal) background check, fingerprints and all and a DSS background check to ensure that I wasn't a child abuser or neglect-er.

The policewoman that took my prints was super nice, we wound up having a conversation which starts as those conversations seem to...

"Wow, I wouldn't have had any idea until I looked at the paperwork!"

"Thanks!"

Anyway, everyone I interacted with during this whole thing was really very nice. I will admit to some degree of surprise, but I just figure treat people like you'd want to be treated and they will respond in kind. I guess it worked for once. The judge was no exception. She made sure I understood that she had to call me by my old name for most of the hearing and actually apologized for that. She asked a few simple questions, mainly verifying what was already on the record.

Then she declared her ruling in my favor and from then on it was Ms. Brower!

Big yay, then out into the thunderstorm in strappy heels... oh yes the joys of open shoes in rain!

The folks at the DMV were very nice, no issues at all and amazingly quickly I had a brand new ID with a not too bad photo! Still more work to do of course, but wow that first step felt great!

Well, that's all for now, thanks for reading!
