Yesterday I had my court date for name change. The whole process to this date had been a bit time consuming but not difficult. Basically I had to supply a SLED(Criminal) background check, fingerprints and all and a DSS background check to ensure that I wasn't a child abuser or neglect-er.
The policewoman that took my prints was super nice, we wound up having a conversation which starts as those conversations seem to...
"Wow, I wouldn't have had any idea until I looked at the paperwork!"
"Thanks!"
Anyway, everyone I interacted with during this whole thing was really very nice. I will admit to some degree of surprise, but I just figure treat people like you'd want to be treated and they will respond in kind. I guess it worked for once. The judge was no exception. She made sure I understood that she had to call me by my old name for most of the hearing and actually apologized for that. She asked a few simple questions, mainly verifying what was already on the record.
Then she declared her ruling in my favor and from then on it was Ms. Brower!
Big yay, then out into the thunderstorm in strappy heels... oh yes the joys of open shoes in rain!
The folks at the DMV were very nice, no issues at all and amazingly quickly I had a brand new ID with a not too bad photo! Still more work to do of course, but wow that first step felt great!
Well, that's all for now, thanks for reading!

I'm looking forward to hopefully getting there myself some day.

Congratulations!
On your name-change milestone!
*Happy happy hugs* Mrs Brower.
Congrats - looks like your process is more involved
Maybe I was just fortunate but, here in the UK, I got a legal friend to draw up a simple statement called a 'Statutory Declaration'. 5 minutes with a high street solicitor and £5 lighter, I walked out legally Susan.
BTW Love the dress, a gorgeous colour.

And then in another of the colonies...
The state's all have their own rules depending on the local COUNTY level! In Lucas county of Ohio, where I live, we're between the two extremes... I had to go down to the courthouse and fill out some forms, pay a hefty sum whose precise figure I don't recall anymore but it was certainly more than $50 but less than $100! And also pay another fee for the local legal news to run an ad about my change of name for a month... The total cost came to something just over a hundred smackers... A month later I had my "hearing" which I just showed up and never saw the judge and got my name change notarized and a few copies and walked out.
It was definitely more involved than yours Susan, but perhaps a little less than Abby.
Abigail Drew.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Its actually just a top(I'd love to find a dress like that!), wore it with a mid-thigh medium khaki linen skirt and a pair of really cute 3" black strappy cork wedges.
If it were that simple here I'd definitely have done it long ago!
Abby
Congrats
It sounds a bit full of red tape but I'm sure the outcome was worth it.

Congratulations Mrs Brower!!
Very cool. It has been a while (15 years ago) for me but still thinking
about it brings a smile!! Now you get to go through all the stuff to
get everything changed. But once it is done you can have a sigh of relief!!
Then you will truly be your true self and nobody can change that!!
I don't know in which state you live but I think it will change sooner
then most people think. Then we all can live our lives as we want and
marry who we want!!
Good luck to you you have passed a milestone!!
Hugs,
Pamela
