In answer to all those who have asked me to publish in any other format other than Kindle. I have now taken steps to publish in ePub format direct onto KOBO. Incidentally, the system is as easy as the Amazon Kindle publishing site, so I will try to get all my books onto KOBO soon.
I have already published THE HARD WAY through SMASHWORDS, but now I've gone through the KOBO site and my latest book- WHEN I COUNT TO THREE is now in the throes of being published. I am told that it will take 24 - 72 hours to complete. I'd be interested to know how it turns out.

Of course there is no protection from PRISM.

Kobo is...
yet another competitor for Amazon Kindle. Kobo produce their own readers and applications for androids, PC and Mac products. Their format is not compatible to the Amazon Kindle format, as it is a simple ePub. Their author-interface is very similar to the Amazon Kindle Digital system, in that you simply upload your word.Doc (or other manuscript and they format it and then you upload your cover. Then you select your market(s) and price... then you wait a day or so and it should be up on your page.
You insert your bank details and they pay you twice a year in your own currency direct to the bank. Kobo readers are cheaper than the Kindle readers, and as good.
From my perspective, it is another potential avenue for me to sell my books, alongside Kindle and paperbacks.
As for pricing.. I am trying to keep the prices the same across the board, although obviously paper costs more in materials and shipping.
Ideally, I should like to sell from my website, and I am looking at software that will allow me to do it securely.

KOBO and epub
Actually the KOBO version of epub is different to the regular variety.
I forget exactly how now but I discovered that while I was researching how to make and edit epubs for myself (the answer is Sigil).
It means that any books you allow KOBO (the website) to format for you may not display correctly on your reader if it isn't a KOBO device.
As I also own a KOBO Touch, I can confirm that the device will also display, correctly, epubs built to the standard by other publishers or by myself.

... sells her books through her web site somehow but I'm not sure just how. I know it works because I've bought most of her TG novels that way. Might be worth having a look at her site and perhaps asking her advice.
