Anime Boston!

So just got back from my weekend at Anime Boston 2013. As usual it was a another great year with lots of entertainment and many funny people.

Cosplays this year were excellent! You still had the normal amount of trolls (trolls = people that say or do things to provoke emotional responses and generally interrupt the norm) but that was far outdone by the excellent craftsmanship everyone put into there cosplays. Unlike all my other years I decided not to do a cosplay this year. (to much going on with my transition and work) instead I strolled the con, chatting with friend and enjoying the party atmosphere.

If anyone has ever been to Anime Boston then they would know that it is 1 of the top 5 largest anime conventions on the east coast. Like any normal event it has its positives and negatives. The negative that most annoyed me year to year was the masquerade. The reason for this, other people might have different opinions, is that the level of competition and thought the contestants put into their skits has been extremely low compared to other cons I have attended. This year that changed. Instead of the first come first serve basis they have always run the masque on, they actually held auditions and screenings to choose those who had a chance to win the prize. The show was very enjoyable this year. They turned there mediocre event into an excellent main attraction.

However as we know, not all can go well. Security was once again a major downer. I understand there need to keep the peace. I would not want to do there job as it is thankless, and often times makes you a very large target for very large amounts of anger. However there are other ways to ask people to do something that does not involve shouting or threats of ejection from the con. There are reasons for this behavior I can understand, such as last years Rave. (some people can be so dumb when they are drunk....) But I feel the tone they try to set is a little over the top. I will say I thank them for keeping me as safe as possible from all the stampeding fanboys and fangirls.

Overall, aside from a little drama between several of my friends on Saturday the entire con for me was a major success. I hope everyone who went also had a fantastic time!

P.S. Can't wait for AB 2014!!!!! =P
