I've been asked by a couple of people about writing stories in my universes. I appreciate people asking. I guess I did get rather snippy a few years ago over some of the blasphemy being done to Bikini Beach. I've got one very strong and promising author who has taken some of my story ideas and is turning them to gold. They are story ideas which were so far down in my writing queue that I'd never get to them in the foreseeable future.

To answer some questions. I will work with anyone who wants to write in BB. I've become rather protective of it, and especially the recurring characters. They're like my children or best friends. If you ask some recent authors, I hope they'll confirm that I'm relatively easy to work with, to adjust the story to fit the universe without detracting from what the author intends. Usually, that's minor tweaks. I enjoy working like that - I feel like I'm giving back to aspiring story-writers who have a tale to tell. Ellie is the other "custodian of BB", and I know, between the two of us, we like to help.

MAU is a little more wide open, since I didn't put controls back on it. Despite that, I do appreciate it when authors contact me to help 'fit' the idea into the MAU concept. I try really hard not to interfere in the story, but to offer suggestions that tweak the story rather than butcher it. After my "reset" story, I did write down some guidelines, and some people chafed at them, but I felt it necessary. There is one point in the guidelines that needs to be clarified - if you don't understand the advanced technology, the device will attempt to match your mental image to known Fwirthian technology. The results might be surprising, however. The more one understands, the less chance of surprises.

Operation Rescue is a very tightly controlled universe. I want to keep it that way, in the same way the Professor kept Ovid tightly controlled. I have strong story ideas and ideals about the universe that I don't want hacked and brutalized. That having been said, I am open to people proposing story ideas to me, and working with me throughout the writing process to make their idea fit my universe's guidelines. I have invited one author to write a story, and another has proposed a story and we're working on it. If you like the universe and have a story idea, please contact me.
