Images of some of the places described in 'Truth Or Consequences'. None of them are my property.

The view across Langstone Harbour from the top of Portsdown Hill, looking south-east towards Hayling Island

ferry.jpg

The British Rail-run Sealink ferry that would have made the crossing to the Isle of Wight in 1979. The journey took 45 minutes, long enough to relax on deck with a pint. These days the new catamarans whisk you over in a third of that time, but it's nowhere near as enjoyable an experience.

Of course if you're in a real hurry there's always the hovercraft. Ryde to Southsea beach in 7 minutes. Brilliant until you hit a wave...

horse.jpg

One of the martello towers built during the 19th century in case the French ever had thoughts of invading the sceptered isle.

ts.jpg

An old London Underground train beginning the journey from the pier head to Ryde Esplanade. Passengers are advised to set their watches back to 1957...

A rather nice property on Appley Rise in Ryde. A two-bedroom flat in this building will set you back about $850 per month.

Tor-Glastonbury-best.jpg

Glastonbury Tor seen from the town. It's a beautiful place, but a tourist trap it is not.

The next set of images will be of Scugdale in North Yorkshire, the setting for 'The House In The Hollow'
