The cops actually think they have the guy who tried to get into my car! Nothing is positive yet, but they told me that the hospital called, it's routine with unusual injuries, I guess, anyway, they have some clown in custody who showed up with three broken fingers and a dislocated thumb. I guess he didn't let go fast enough when I peeled out of the parking space. There is no proof that he's actually the one, and I didn't get a long enough, good enough look at him when it happened. I'll go down to take a look and see if I recognize him, but it's doubtful there'll be any charges placed on him, unless he confesses, or someone else comes forward to say that he's tried this before.

So I'll have to be satisfied with knowing that at least, if he IS the same guy, that I hurt him enough so he'll think more than twice before he tries anything like that again. Seems like I keep coming out on top of these things.. so far anyway.

Still... it's good advice for ALL OF US! LOCK YOUR DOORS, CAR OR HOME. DON'T MAKE YOURSELF A TARGET!! Watch those around you when you're out, especially if you're alone!!! If things LOOK hinky... they probably are. At night, ASK for an escort to your car. Even if it's a densely populated parking area, people don't like to get involved unless it's them being accosted.

Remember. You're NOT paranoid if they ARE out to get you... and they ARE!!!!!

A relieved Catherine Linda Michel said that.

Maybe?

I hope your insurance rates don't get jacked up over this.

I'm with her.

Mary has many excellent points.

#1: The use of DNA - the detectives might not want to put too much manpower into this since the potential victim - you - got away completely safe, but if you PUSH them - AS the potential victim - they SHOULD use DNA evidence. And as Mary said, if your car took a chunk out of him, that chunk could very well still be on your car.

#2: It could have been worse, and, indeed, probably has been worse with the very same perp. I agree also that the guy who accosted you more than likely has accosted other women before and will not stop just because of one failure. If there's any chance of getting him off the street, it's your civic responsibility to aid in that.

Grabbing a door handle is not likely to be a criminal offense. It looks ominous, but you can not show intent.

I'm glad he didn't get away clean, if it is the same guy. If it isn't, we can only hope nothing happens to someone else from him.
