My first reaction when I saw this was to post something about how this made me decide not to donate anything. However just because I dislike this sort of post doesn't mean I'm not going to donate money for Erin to keep the site running. Asking people to donate is a good idea, having certain stories, or other features which are only available to people who donate (like the Hatbox was originally) is a great way of encouraging people to donate but "I won't post the story until enough people have donated" does not actually encourage donations much and does annoy people who do donate - effectively discouraging donations.

but I absolutely don't like blackmail. So pooh to you TLBS. Nevertheless a little funding never hurt anyone so I've gone there. For this year I tried to do a little extra, as I'm well aware that funding with the income derived from ads has become much harder. And though I abhor the ads, not only here but everywhere, I know they have become a part of -internet- existence.
