Earlier i was reading a 'gender bender' manga, and i for one thought it was quite good with a few minor exceptions.

The Girl was a rude, obnoxious slob who was quick anger and just as quick to fight.

the Guy was nice and polite, almost always smiling beautifully. Quite the homemaker, good at cooking, cleaning and sewing.

Then they switched bodies...

They eventually they started falling into romances suited for their new genders, this started to rub a LOT of the readers wrong. The forum for the manga became full of people bashing and hating the story. Some people were confused about "how could a guy ever fall in love with another guy just because suddenly he turns into a chick?"

Finally, this is what i wrote....

"I've read a lot of complaints about this manga, or people who just dont understand...

but im begining to think that the point to this was that the two people were transgendered to begin with. I think too many people look at gender as if it was set in stone.. you have a wang* or you dont.

But that's only physical, we are human and a lot more complex than that. No one is purely Evil, and no one is Purely good. I think the same applies to gender. It is on a sliding scale, and only when the scale tips too far in what is socially considered the wrong direction do we have a problem.

this seems to be the case with our two protagonists. The author is simply imagining "what if suddenly the outside matched the inside? and how would they react?"

all too often society tries to force the triangle block through the round hole, and like the child it is, gets frusterated and mad at the block for not fitting into what they think it should."

I can only hope that helps them understand even a little, but i'll not hold my breath. It did seem to change the direction of the conversation though, i'll have to wait a few days (maybe even weeks) to see how the post fares.

Boku to Kanojo no XXX

I'm assuming you're talking about the manga 'Boku to Kanojo no XXX', or usually translated as 'My Barbaric Girlfriend' or 'Your and My Secret'.

I understand where you're coming from. I haven't read what the others are saying and what forum you're talking about and such, but I can kind of understand where they're coming from. I mean, at the start of the manga it is made obvious that Uehara-kun (the guy protagonist, later switched to a girl body) is madly in love with Momoi-chan (said girl, who switches with Uehara-kun). That pretty much implies he is attracted to girls. Something the author suddenly changes during the manga.

The comments might have been a bit different if Uehara and Momoi end up together after the body swap though. I mean, Uehara says he likes the way Momoi looks and he thinks her behavior is very manly, which he apparently likes. He would have to be bisexual for that to work.

I think I would have liked the story best if Uehara and Momoi eventually end up back in their original body and become a couple. A couple were the gender roles are somewhat reversed.

I would have liked it best if it eventually involved a lesbian relationship of course. That's just my little quirk though. You could say I'm a yuri/shoujo-ai otaku :D.

Ugh... my Barbaric girlfriend

Ugh... my Barbaric girlfriend was one of the few mangas I just couldn't read because I hated the protagonists too much. The former guy because he was such a wimp and absolutely incapable of standing up for himself. And the girl because she was such an asocial tyrant.
Actually they represented the worst stereotypes of male and female only reversed. In the beginning I really identified with Uehara, but after some time I just couldn't stand him anymore.

On the other hand it's not something specific for this manga, it's something about manga in general. I find it very hard to not get a major fit about casual violence and especially the really annoying repetetive female on male vicious casual violence that happens in every second or third manga. I just can't find it funny to pound a guy into a wall for looking at a girls boobs.
I mean the gender reversed equivalent was for a guy to start a bullying campaign against a girl because she asked him to carry something for her.

If I had too guess many people felt similar about the barbaric girlfriend manga and hoped the ex-guy protagonist would just one day tell her to fuck off. This is just speculation, because I haven't read it beyond the first ten episodes or so.

yeah in the begining there are serious attitude problems, the main character gets walked all over, and the guy is a total ass...

but things do come around and the guy starts to eventually grow on you. Even to the point of encouraging her to stick up for herself.

The attitude problem though i've come to realize is simply Korea..i've YET to read a Korean Manwah that has what i consider to be good characters.

I did say that there were a few things about the manga that i didnt like.. and this is exactly it. But what i was refering to was people's general attidude towards a body swapped relationship. Although the characters attitudes came into question as well, the big topic was in reguards to a former male falling for his former best friend. I was disgusted at how vehemently people protested the relationship based solely on just that.

Yeah, your right, it threw me because of the artwork. Most Korean manwah's draw the eye'e huge like that. And they treat their female characters like they are so weak that they couldnt possibly get on in the world without a man to support them. Ironicly the few i've read where the female character is supposedly really strong and tough, really they are nothing more than loud mouthed brats (who by the way are put in thier place by a guy)

sorry, i've nothing good to say about Korean writers lol
