none of the Christians I know talk like this,
but this guy's like some over the top transgender fiction Supervillian,
telling his North Carolina congregation:
"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, "Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do," you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.
Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting to Butch you reign her in. And you say, "Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. And you know every person in that congregation took his sermon to heart. The political back lash from his comment *may* be enough that the parents are discrete in their "correction" but in their minds physical violence is now the answer.
This breaks my heart...

What I don't understand ...
... is why he can't be arrested for promoting hatred? (I've spent exactly one week in the USA, so my understanding is limited.) Does the US not have laws similar to (say) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksverhetzung or is it limited to racial?
There are some laws
There are some laws pertaining to it, such as 'incitement to riot', but in general, unless there are specific threats made against specific persons, it gets covered under 'freedom of speech'. The fact that it involves religion makes it even more difficult.
Also, because of how the US was formed, and the number of states involved, you end up with a lot of confusing, and often conflicting, laws.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

The comments of this minister are truly disgusting. While he has the right, and he may see it as a religious duty to attack LGBT, behavior, to do so by condoning physical assaults on children is beyond the beyond the pale. I'm not very knowledgable of Christian doctrine, but I cannot imagine that Jesus taught such behavior.

I posted this on my plurk the other day from Huffington. They had the audio and the sickening and disturbing thing is that when he was saying those things, like cracking wrists and punching, the majority of the people it seemed were laughing and agreeing with him!
I'm a Christian, but I take my Christianity to mean following Jesus's teachings before anything that a church has put forth. Sadly, this is the problem with the church today. Knowing that area (and I am not trying to offend people), there are a lot of people down there who are proud of being called rednecks. He basically is condoning child abuse and his "backtracking" is just like these stupid politicians who say sorry for other people being offended by their words.
In my opinion, this person has no business holding any authority in a Christian church. (Erin, please don't consider this a rant against religion or anything else...as I said, I'm Southern Baptist, but this kind of thing disgusts me.)

I will not quote scripture, but man's thoughts and God's thoughts are not the same, more often mankind interprets Gods way as our ways and are totally incorrect in doing so.
Church Doctrine is mankinds idea of what God wants.
If your offspring are orn armless and legless are they any lesser of a child? People go out ot their way to accomodate them. But let a male or female child state want to be the other gender and it's immediately a sin. I believe as a Christian God made each of us as he saw fit. The Devil has been in telling lies from the begining. God is a loving God, a God of second chances.
When a Christian? spews hate he/she is not living according to God's word.
I was brainwashed as a child of what was sinful and not sinful. I spent the majority of my life repressing who I am because of it.
If your offspring is born Gay,transsexual or what ever, we should embrace them for who they are, not what we think they should be.

I can't help but think some branches of Christianity have got themselves into the same mess Judaism was about 2,000 years ago: those in the religious hierarchy rigidly over-interpreting laws, adding their own, and turning the faith into one based on exclusion (if you do A, B or C you're not welcome; and if you don't do X, Y and Z in the correct order every day you can forget about an afterlife) rather than inclusion (everyone's welcome). Some evidence of this can still be seen today with certain groups who rigidly define what does and does not constitute "work" on the Sabbath.
Meanwhile, in Christianity, we've got idiots like this who believe that anything that could be interpreted as gender-deviant behaviour must be quashed as soon as it manifests, even as early as infancy; and some still believe that those born with birth defects etc. are paying the price for the sins of their ancestors (a concept I thought Jesus had tried to quash when he was around...)
Unfortunately, while printing the Bible in the vernacular allows anyone to read it, it also allows anyone to pick and choose the bits they think apply to them (I doubt you'll find many using Leviticus to condone slavery, forced marriage, stoning or condemning those who wear clothes of two different materials!) while also ignoring the fact that the languages of the time were rich in metaphors which aren't commonly understood now, leading some to reinterpret metaphors / analogies as literal events.
As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

I don't know how independent this congregation is, but if it can it should fire this alleged pastor, especially considering that it is a religion that claims that love is a top priority.
Otherwise good people do unspeakable things to others because:
1. they don't see some others as human
2. they don't see the harm they do.
Violence is an option when:
1. for self defense
2. to protect others from violence
When violence is done to a child then the child learns that violence is a legitimate option.

When I read this last night, I sat here crying for two reasons, because I am a Christian (Catholic) who still goes to church, and because my M2F CD friend Koz, who is also Catholic and very devout, so much more so than me, suffered abuse over his girlish ways and as a teenager was made by his mum to swear before God that he would never crossdress again. Funny thing is that one of the only place he found refuge when he tried to kill himself by drinking was at a monastery.
I abhor this man's double standard shown through the statement "You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. " said to a girl. What about this said to a son: "Do ballet son. Do it to the glory of God. "
My jaw about hit the floor though with the comments of the guy about "screw your daughter straight".
I can just hear his response to critics: 'Lighten up. Its just a joke. I didn't mean it."
