Wednesday the 28th of March, I went to the Privacy Officer at the VA hospital where I am treated. I went in to ask about the directive I mentioned in another blog.
I was handed a form written by the VA that requires a Doctor who has treated a transgender individual.
I took the form to the endocrinologist who has been treating me today to ask him to fill out the form.
He did so after reading the directive 2011-024 and the new policy for changing gender on the electronic medical record.

One does not have to have GRS to get the letter designation as a female, this same form also applies to a passport.

So now I wait for the letter telling me that I am designated as a female by the US. Government.

I wonder why you are having such problems.

At the VA, they have always been really respectful to me. But I know that thought they address me as female, deep in the record, it says Male. I don't object much because I know that certain things that happen to us do not happen to XX females. Will this new directive change this?

Why I did what I did

I really do not have a problem with the VA except every letter I get from them is addressed as dear Mister. Having the female designator will get you treated as a female and the respect as a female and no problems with using the ladies restrooms. I don't have that problem but I've read of others who have.
I can not have GRS due to a physical illness, but I don't have to live as a male because surgery is not an option. I am intersexed and my hormones are identical to an xx female as are my chromosomes.
I did this for my own peace of mind and suggest every vet who is in the transgender arena and believes theselves to be female make the same request.

I've heard...

I've heard that getting our DD-214's fixed is MUCH harder... My therapist's been working on getting hers fixed for going on four years now... Apparently the Military and VA don't follow the same rules, yet again...
