I recently left a comment on a story here but was left with the feeling it was a somewhat inadequate response.

So I decided to write a short blog to say Thank You.

First of all, I need to say a big Thank You to Erin, for continuing to give us a wonderful site where writers can let their stories ‘run free’ for us readers to enjoy.

Secondly, to the writers, another Thank You is due. The reasons for writing a story can be numerous. Some have a need to write, combined with a love of writing, to convey their thoughts, hopes and wishes into a story. For others it is an exercise in getting an idea across in a way that the reader can understand.

Whatever the motivation of the writer, some aspects hold true for all. This is the commitment in time, effort and sheer had work invested in getting the story down and completed.

From the comments I have read from writers in the past the thoughts flitting through the brain ‘will this be any good’ ‘Is this worth it’ Am I just wasting my time?’ seem to hold true for many.
The fact that all the stories published on this site have successfully worked through this stage of doubt and uncertainly shows a determination which I, as a mere reader, can only applaud.

Yet for all this effort all they receive is kudos and comments.

Some authors have admitted that they feel disheartened by a lack of response to their efforts. Perhaps, as a silly idea, you could adopt a more positive approach. If one of your favourite writers leaves a comment on your story you could multiply by five in your head, the kudos received. If someone who has been critical of your efforts in the past, now makes a positive one, then multiply by ten. Silly I know, but it may make a difference to one or two writers who are in the post publish ‘down’ they get over a new story.

As a mere reader, I would like to say Thank You to ALL the writers on this site for having the guts and determination to release your stories. Whether I read a story or not, is not a reflection on your abilities, bur purely down to my personal likes and dislikes.

More importantly, a heartfelt Thanks to all those writers whose stories I have read which gave me an insight in my own failings and foibles. They have challenged my preconceptions and prejudices and yet achieved this in a piece of fiction meant, in the main, for enjoyment.

You must all be proud of such an achievement.
