Thats Truely Sick

and a statement about our society today; commercialism at its finest!

Take heart, they could be playing "Its a Small World After All" nonstop. Drink the Koolaid in one gulp.

Same thing there. I was talking with on of the folks that work there, they have counted the songs, 50 of them, in one continuous loop. Over and over and over...

So cheer up, it could be worse!

I thought...

Dorothy worked at Walmart?

Oh, and by the way, my mother is now listening to almost purely Christmas music on our local station that does such stupidity. Easy listening they call themselves... More like kill me now repetition.

I don't mind Christmas music in and of itself, in fact, I have several songs that are considered "Christmas" on my year-round playlist... but they're a drop in the bucket compared to thousands... nearly a million... of other songs.

The local station

Wouldn'd be WODS out of Boston MA would it? As soon as I read your post I tuned my radio to that station and found it playing Christmas music. I immeadiately turned back to my favorite station. I don't mind Christmas music especially if it is after Thanksgiving and not repeated ad-nauseum.

Nah...

I'm in NW Ohio... we have a different set of local stations than you do. I'll bet though, that anywhere that has a local station billing itself as "easy listening" - that's where you'll be finding the 24/7 christmas "cheer". Ours is WRVF, 101.5 "The River". I like real rivers... I hate "The River". Some people refer to our local station STAR 105.5 as easy listening as well, but they actually just bill themselves as a variety station. They aren't too bad. They also don't subscribe to the silly 24/7 christmas junk.

Personally, I don't listen to too much local radio, or radio at all. There was once upon a time a really awesome online radio called "J-Fan" that played a HUGE variety of Asian music. They were good. I mean, good.

These days, it's my own personal music collection for me.

There's a lot less "local"

There's a lot less "local" radio then there used to be. Many of the stations have been bought by companies that own hundreds of stations across the country, and provide the programming for all the stations. So your two radio stations may have exactly the same playlists year round.

I feel your pain

Muzak is horrible at anytime, and canned Christmas cheer is a grotesque mockery that
on me has the opposite of its intended effect; putting me in a vile misanthropic mood.
But I don't collapse to the floor and break down into helpless hysterical sobbing
until it's DEC 26th, the day I had counted on it finally being over
and for some sick ungodly reason IT'S STILL GOING!
GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

That brings me back to my retail days. Thank goodness that's done with.

Have delightfully devious day,

I hear a Christmas song every day

We have a couple of alarm clocks in the house... ordered them online. They turned out to be Japanese manufacture, and are quite cute. They run through a sequence of soft-lit color changes when you touch them in the night, nothing garish. When you wake up in the night and touch them to see the time, they start with a soft glow that fades into another color, and gradually fade out, changing colors all the way.

But in the morning, the alarm sound is the tune We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Every day. I don't think it meant anything in particular to the makers.

Okay, I'm ooold ...

I can remember when Christmas shopping began after Thanksgiving. I know, the Thanksgiving newspapers were the biggest and heaviest of the year, and I delivered for both a morning and afternoon paper.

But you are lucky it only just started. One of the Walmarts here in Indianapolis started playing it the day before Halloween!

And at least 3 other stores I've been in started on Halloween or the day after.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Subliminal Earworms

The songs attack the braincells and turn us all into zombified automatons that march in lockstep to the nearest department store, where we proffer our purses and wallets to the sales assistants in exchange for poorly fitting cheap underwear.

The first recorded example of this type of behaviour was depicted in the movie "Invasion Of the Bodysnatchers".

Sorry, I have to go to K-Mart and see Santa,
