Well, I was nearly fifteen pages into the sequel to Incompatible when I realized, much to my chagrin, that I didn't like the direction in which the story was headed. I decided to rework things a bit and now I only have eight pages of story.

kill your darlings, and all that. i've certainly been there - thrown out more pages than i can count. and i have at least 15 unfinished stories that may never see the light of day because i won't post unfinished stories any more.
anyway, i find that vodka helps. not with the writing - it definitely doesn't help with the writing - but with the not regretting throwing the pages away. if nothing else, you regret the hangover more.
