Unrequited Love

Tonight I said goodbye to the man I love, knowing that I likely will not ever see him again. I doubt that he knows anything of my feelings toward him. He is 29, I am 64, so it is well that I never utter a word about it. He did something that is just not done in his faith, he hugged me goodbye and when he did my heart broke.

You see, he is from Saudi Arabia, and is a very moderate and loving Muslim. He does not know about "it" and I will never tell him, rather I have just tried to be a helpful woman helping a sometimes discouraged young man to come to America, get an education and return to Saudia better for it, and hopefully be part of the wave of change in the Middle East that will make the world a better place.

I just wanted to help someone because they needed it, and I could do it. I had not planned to become emotionally involved with him; not planned to make a fool of myself by falling in love with something forbidden. I can't help myself, it just happened, and I did not realise until he left the house that it had happened.

There is no intention, implied or otherwise to engage in any selfish, self serving drama like talk of suicide. Just becareful who you fall in love with.

Much love

Gwendolyn

As you well know Gwen, it is

As you well know Gwen, it is not always a matter of choice. Sometimes that silly little emotion can just wriggle itself into your heart, and there you are, stuck with it. Just be glad you have loved. You are very human.

Oh, Gwen ...

*soft hug* As I wrote in Loose Change, "Love isn’t logical. It’s not supposed to be. It’s deep and mysterious and full of confusion and contradictions. People click, or they don’t, but whatever happens when you fall in love is too powerful to ignore. Just because it’s not ‘smart’ to love someone doesn’t mean you can just stop. When it happens, love is so damned special, you can’t bear to let it slip away."

But sometimes you have to let it go, and it always hurts. *squeeze* Remember that feeling, though. It's precious, to feel that deep inside. And someday, you may find someone that brings that feeling back to you ... and feels the same way for you. Life happens ... and so does love.

As Einstein once said, "I never think about the future. It comes soon enough." And your future is waiting, Gwen.

Much love,

Randa

I am so sorry!

I know this is totally useless, but I just want you to know that I care, and I know how much you are hurting. I once dated a young woman, only to find out I was almost as old as her grand mother! It hurt a lot, but I had to back away. As useless as it is, time does heal all wounds-even though it may not seem like there is that much time in the world. I hope you feel better soon.

Ah, love...

Gwen, love makes fools of most of us eventually. Especially when we didn't expect it or had given up on it. *smile*

Although the unrequited variety sucks. That was most of my experience with love until now... So I feel for you, Gwen. Good luck working through it, lady. *hug*
