The mirror doesn't lie

Printer-friendly version

The mirror doesn’t lie.
It cannot for there is no capacity for deception
Merely reflects what is in its sights
When I step before a mirror
My mind’s eye is what gets shattered

As any delusions of acceptability are destroyed
The sad thing is I need not the reflection
As my own eyes can see my obvious flaws
Starkly apparent even in the darkest pitch of night.
Perception, however, is said to be reality
So my stirrings stay deep within me
With nary a chance of losing them after all these years
No desire to lose them even though my time to change is past
Lack of ability is not the conflict anymore
Merely the loss of canvas to be painted on
No matter how I look to others or myself
I am cursed, or is it blessed?
To always be
Me

Not sure..

Not sure exactly how to interpret this, but the words ring with a familiar tone.

It's good that you can't

It's good that you can't interpret it since I'm not really sure how it's intended myself. It just flowed out at the time.

Thanks for commenting, Jenna!

No one else can tell you best how to be yourself

This one really hit home

Wow, Marlisa you wrote a touching poem that captured the way I feel. For me it is not only the mirror, but also my voice.

That's very sweet of you to

That's very sweet of you to say, Jaime. I know I'm never going to be the ideal of what I'd love to look like, but that's alright now, at least as alright as I'll get anyway. :)
