Hi everybody. I just discovered BC. A little later than most, I guess. At age 65 I am still theoretically male externally, but confused internally. If only the internet had existed 50 years ago! Anyway, I missed my best chance at the age of 19 through a combination of a lack of maturity and utter cowardice in a time when transsexuality was almost a capital crime and only brave souls like Christine Johannsen and April Ashley made the journey. I did not have their guts. Not complaining. My decision, and life compensates you in other ways. I have two lovely grandchildren who wouldn't exist if I had transitioned, and I still enjoy sneaking out en femme on the odd occasion. Just knowing that there are so many like me out there is an enormous comfort. I used to think I was almost alone. The stories on this site and others like FM give me much entertainment. I have some favourite authors (they know who they are) and I hope they keep writing for years to come.

Don't beat yourself up Joannebarbarella. You were hardly an "utter coward" for not pursuing transition at 19, back at a time (1961?) when conventional wisdom held that this just wasn't a realistic option, and only a few fabulous Audie Murphy-types had the "guts" to go charging into the fray of public derision. And then, well, from the sound of it you had a family, the expectations of others, and you selflessly put them first. This sounds pretty darn honorable to me. (I'm 54, what was my excuse?).

Like you said, it's great to find out we're not alone, and if I can presume to speak for the gang
you're not just welcome here at BC but VALUED here.
Mucho Hugs,
Laika

Thanks Laika,
