A few days ago, I sent a word document to a friend to give her a smile and perhaps think about a tour of Portsmouth, where I live.
As all you merry band of followers of EAFOAB or ‘Bike’ or even The Daily Dormouse will know, this is where the story is based.
There is Dickensian London, Bronte Country and even Hardy’s Wessex. But we have a new addition; Cathyland.
Many thanks for Puddintane for all the help and advice in making the following possible, the errors are mine alone.

Galliver’s Travels
Proudly presents a new addition to our range of literary location tours
CathyLand
As a bespoke tour company, we take pride in our unique approach to meeting the needs of our refined clientele.
Within Cathyland we have an exciting and varied range of attractions to meet the most exacting requirements of the traveller.
We take pleasure in presenting a few of the attractions which we can mix and match to meet your individual touring requirements.
If you are staying for longer than a day trip, we can suggest the following hotel.
It is rumoured to be owned by a certain banking family.
However, for those on a limited day only travel and tour we have plenty to see and do.
For the lovers of nature we could start with our own Natural History museum based in Eastern Parade, Southsea.
.This could be the first stop on either a cycle or chauffeured car tour. For those of you who love the natural world this could be the perfect start to the day.
We are lucky to have other museums that are ideal for those who follow some of Cathy’s literary heroes
For example Portsmouth museum in the aptly named Museum Road has the greatest collection of Sherlock Holmes material in the world.
This is the Richard Lancelyn Green Bequest of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection.
For more details try this link:

The museum has free entry which is a bonus for those on a fixed budget.
We are also able to arrange a visit to another smaller museum which is actually the birthplace of Charles Dickens.

As we all know Cathy is based at Portsmouth University, however we have to imagine which building this would be.
Is it this?
Perhaps a little futuristic, how about this one,
Hmm a bit 60’s
How about this one;
Perhaps we will never know.
If your needs turn to shopping we have the gunwharf shopping area alongside the Spinnaker tower.
From designer outlets to individual shops plus plenty of cafes and restaurants
Perhaps a trip to the spinnaker tower would appeal the views are impressive.
Whatever your shopping needs and desires we can help you find the inner cathy in all of us.
After all that shopping and eating a stroll around the parts of Old Portsmouth would also appeal. The Camber docks, Spice Island etc
Here are some photographs of that area;
Remember at Galliver’s Travels we are able to meet most people’s tour needs. However, should there be anything you would like to see please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to accommodate your needs.
You can contact us on the usual telephone numbers or via e-mail
This is Annie at Galliver’s travels signing out.

How can you have missed out
The historic ships, and....this historic pub>

the ships and pubs
Thanks for the response to my piece of fun. I didn’t want to go too mad, but here’s the link to Portsmouth dockyard:

As to pubs, try and find a copy of the Pubs of Portsmouth by Ron Brown, it brings back many memories of many older pubs or look at this site:

Good grief!
There is such a place as Portsmouth - I thought Bonzi made it up, you know the bump on his head when he fell off his bike doing the Tour de Force...
Thanks Annie, when I first saw this I hoped you'd post it - now all them Northerners can see what they're missing, apart from sunshine.

Portsmouth? Would that be the home of the ex Royal Navy?
As an avid reader of Warships I have noted with sadness the demise of the British Royal Navy, many of these ships which had once called Portsmouth their home. One of the latest to to be decommissioned is the HMS Arc Royal. God save the queen, for the navy will no longer be able to.
This government
would rather save bankers than national pride or security. We're going to have the stupid predicament of two new carriers in a few years time, with no aircraft to fly from them. What are they going to use to fly over Libya--Sopwith camels or SE5s?

They will probably
lease or rent the space to some needy country that needs the space to store planes. Got to have some income.
Hhhmm.
Of bikes and boats. It could work ... pedals and pedalos.
I'll keep in touch.
Thanks Annie. There's a germ of an idea here.

Growing old disgracefully.
The university
The School of Biological Sciences would seem to be the most appropriate home for Cathy and Tom, so I hopped onto the uni's website to find out where that department is located, and found this virtual tour, which uses a spot of Google Earthing to zoom into the city from orbit (presumably, with the current funding malarky, they're reaching out to intergalactic students...)

Sadly, the real life King Henry building (where the SBS is based) is a 1960s/70s vintage concrete box: http://goo.gl/maps/dNKV
Meanwhile, what visit to Portsmouth would be complete without their most infamous supermarket? http://goo.gl/maps/Uxyy
I can't see any red Mondeos or Porsche Cayennes in the car park, so evidently they weren't shopping when the Street View car visited town :)
