Part 16

Matt was driving, Jeff was staring out the window in the passenger seat and Emily was sitting behind him with her hand on Jeff's shoulder. They were coming home from the police station again, this time from giving more DNA to prove that Ugg was Jeff's father. Last night, he hadn't bothered them, after Emily had frowned at him and flicked a gaze to the kitchen, clearly telling him they needed to be left alone. Emily had done the talking as they had left the station, telling about the discovery that she and Jeff had made. Again, Matt wished he'd been able to move them to a larger town. He didn't know what to say to Jeff, so he said nothing.
When they pulled into the driveway, there was a teenage girl with red hair sitting on the steps. She stood and dusted off her backside and waved, smiling. Jeff and Emily waved half-heartedly as they got out of the car. Matt recognized her as the imperious girl that helped Jeff a couple of days before and nodded before going inside to leave the three alone.
The three walked over to the park, not really saying anything. They sat in the shade and, eventually, they told Devin of the prior night's information overload. Her eyes widened, but then she nodded.
“Wow,” she said, “I mean when I dressed you up the other day, I didn't see a bulge in your underwear, but I just figured you had a tiny dick. Sorry, but I guess it's just smaller than even I guessed.”
Jeff scowled at her, saying, “Look, this isn't a joke to me,” then he looked embarrassed and mumbled, “What's a dick?”
Again, she nodded sagely, and replied, “Slang for boyparts, dude, the worm-y looking part. But then, you'll learn all that in Health class this fall. No, you need to think of it that way, and you won't be so hung up on it. You just have a very small dick. Don't just think of it as a small dick. Own it. Some other guy laughs because you have a tiny dick. Fix 'im with a completely 'I don't give a shit' stare and say, 'Yeah? So?' and move on.”
“Wait,” said Emily as she stood up, “You totally don't have a problem with this?”
The older girl shrugged, “Why should I have a problem with it? It's his dick.”
“You mean,” asked Jeff, hope making his voice quaver a bit, “you don't care that I'm really a girl?”
Devin laughed. She looked at Jeff, then barked another laugh, before drawing a deep breath and settling herself. She was still grinning when she answered, “You. Are so not a girl... it's almost painful, Jeff.”
Emily settled back down as the beatific smile filled Jeff's features.

So what's a girl then and how would you know Devin.. and what sort of a names that anyway?? Promise not to make any Hillbillie(?) jokes. This is fun and quirky literary handball assuming I can spell literary and know what handball is. As for linear I think we wandered off that some time ago...but, heh nuthin wrong with a bit of a wander. Round and round we go.. where she stops nobody knows... well I guess Edeyn might.

Everyone seems absolutely certain that Devin is TG because of her name. I know 19 people named Devin (or spelling variants) and only ONE is a boy! As for Hillbilly jokes, the Ozarks are essentially the same as they were 150 years ago, as far as attitudes go. So now you have hillbillies with better technology
The story is linear inasmuch as it's chronological... but so not as far as immediately following

You want some speculation about where we think this is going, before you finish it. OK I’ll tell you what I think. From the pieces I’ve put together, I’d say that Devin is in transition, male to female, kicked out by her parents and taken in by her older sister. After all, talking a boy into dressing as a girl, in order to hide from the police, isn’t something that your average girl would think of, (of course, this depends on your definition of average). I’m guessing that the lawyer they went to see is the same one that helped with Devin’s change of identity. Next let’s talk about Matt / Brenda and Janette, isn’t it probable that when Janette came to pick up Jessica she found Brenda instead of Matt. After accepting that situation and becoming lovers, she eventually confided in Matt. Revealing, to him, her true identity, as well as the problem that she and Jessica faced and fled from. They both decided that hiding Jessica from Ugg by dressing her as a boy would solve Janette’s problems. After all Uggs PI’s would be looking for a mother and daughter, not mother and son.
At this point, the DNA is going to show that Jeff is Ugg's daughter. He is going to give such a performance because of; one, being deceived, two, the apparent incompetence of the police, three, that fact that his wife would convince his daughter that she was a boy. His performance should win him an academy award, but will most likely have him in contempt of court, spending some time in the county jail, and have the emancipation suite granted thus loosing any paternal rights he may feel he’s entitled to. The only problem I see stemming from daddy Ugg is that he won’t leave it alone. Matt, Emily and Jeff will have to move to get way from him.
Jeff on the other hand, now has a hard choice to make; try to remain the boy that he has come to know himself to be (at 13 he will have to start hormone therapy fairly soon), or accept the fact that his body is female and learn how to be a girl. That’s the tough decision.
But hay, this is a great story to follow, it’s got more twists than a coiled up rattle snake, oh sorry didn’t mean to describe Ugg. Anyway, with the variety of characters, the situation, the excitement, the guessing game involved in trying to figure everything out, a truly fun and lively story.

As far as Jeff knows, he's always been a boy. He's never wanted to be a girl. Why would he want to learn how now?

Why a tough decision?
From my own experience, I've come to the realization that some of what we believe to be 'Truth' are actually things that we’ve ‘Accepted as Customary’. When we are faced with facts that go against what we’ve accepted, we are forced to re-evaluate what we think, we know to be true.
Jeff has been raised as a boy, from as far back as he can remember. Taught to play boy games, act like a boy, to express feelings as a boy, and every thing that makes a boy a boy, with the exception of what’s between his legs, Jeff is a boy. Suddenly he is faced with physical facts that will force him to re-evaluate his life, what he knows and what he has been taught.
So yes, Jeff is faced with a tough decision. Of course you must also remember one thing … this is just my humble opinion.

As far as Jeff knows, he's always been a boy. He's never wanted to be a girl. Why would he want to learn how now?
As it is now apparent that Jeff doesn't even know what a girl is, how can it be honestly said he's never wanted to be one? He's been told he's a boy, treated and seen as a boy - in a way it's forced fem in reverse (forced masc?).
Jeff is not TS - now hear me out before ya get all riled up! Jeff isn't someone who was born female but felt like a boy inside, at least as far as we know. He was born female and had a male gender identity forced on him. Without this Jessica may well have developed as a happy girl. Jeff has never been allowed to experience what being a girl is, so he has no way of really knowing if he wants to be a girl or not. I seriously doubt a reputable therapist would go along with any kind of masculinization treatment (certainly not at his age) until Jeff has at least explored being a girl.
There are two possibilities here: Jeff really is TS, a boy born in a girl's body, and his mom got very, very lucky with her stunt. The other possibiity is that Jeff really is a girl, forced to play the role of a boy, and eventually her feminine feelings will assert themselves. Either way the road ahead is going to be rough.
