A few minutes ago, Cuddles killed her toy Skunkie that I got her for Christmas. Skunkie had been on life support since Cuddles bit the squeaker out of the tail on Sunday. Now, both of the squeakers are broken and pulled out of the plush. It's the nature of dogs to kill the toys they love the best fastest. She's never killed a toy quite so quickly before, just 6 days; it usually takes more like four to six months. But she had never loved a toy quite as much as she loved Skunkie.
Skunkie is dead. Long live Wheelie, the toy that squeaks AND rolls like a wheel!
Hugs to all pets,
Erin

I hear you
My wiener dogs could remove the stuffing from a toy in no time flat. Strangely, they seemed to love it even more. It could be dragged through the water bowl, food bowl or dragged through the dirt outside and they still brought it into bed to sleep with. Heavens forbid if I run it through the washer. Sometimes I wish I could still take care of pets because they do bring a certain joy and peace besides being great bed warmers. May Skunkie rest in peace.
Toys don’t die!
I thought everyone knew that toys become Real. Here’s how Margery Williams explained it in The Velveteen Rabbit:
It seems perfectly obvious to me that Cuddles was just trying to make her Skunkie Real.

Never teach a beastie
Never teach a beastie what Christmas means! Mine can't even deal appropriately with their knowledge about breakfast.
Harley's gone through two toy monkeys...
...when he chewed enough to bite the second squeaker, he came up to me squeezing the monkey, making a flapping plastic sound. He shoved the monkey against my knee and he looked up with the saddest eyes I've ever seen in a dog; as if he wanted me to fix it. He currently has a cute hedgehog whose squeaker is wheezing sadly while he manipulates it in his mouth looking for the right squeeze that will resuscitate the toy. A toy is a small price to pay since he's already eaten two power cords for each of our two laptops and destroyed the cord to the treadmill.
I'd like to talk to my lawyer!

My spaniels
used to puncture squeaky toys or rip out the squeaker in short order - which was pleasing on the ears, although sometimes their teeth squeaked on the plastic/rubber of the toy, which could be annoying.
My cats don't use many toys, Izzy will chase anything I roll or throw for her, and will unpick paper balls as if to 'kill' them. Bonzi plays with real things. On Boxing Day he played with a greenfinch and left the corpse on the back doorstep - he came back later and ate its head. Lovely things, cats.
Happy New Year Erin & Cuddles.

My old hound was very, very
My old hound was very, very delicate with some toys. Rope and ball toys were for wrestling and tearing at, but what she loved were the little birds put out by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) in which a small electronic box provides the bird's song. She would hold it in her mouth to gently press the song button, never tearing or chewing the toy apart. I had to replace each birdy as the battery wore out. I could also wrestle her with my hand in her mouth. Not bad for a seven stone (hundred pound) dog.
Elmo
My girl puppy had a whole basket of toys, squeakies usually didn't last long and a crochet sausage dog fared little better. But the hands..paws? down fave was Elmo. She loved him. would run aound for ages tossing and catching and flipping and generally giving him a hard time. Six months later I got the boy and once he aclimated he got in on the Elmo act, they'd ...err toss for him. Until the day a tug of war was used to decide who got him. Poor Elmo didn't do well.
About a year later I found another Elmo in a charity shop. He lasted about an hour. Solid not too hard rubber balls from then on. Keep your teddy bears high.

Dead squeaky toys
They can be resurrected. Our dog has a favorite squeaky hedgehog toy. He killed the squeaker, we bought a six pack of squeakers at a pet supply store. After some minor surgery the hedgehog had it's squeak restored.

dog toys
We have a stray rescue border collie/Australian sheep dog mix, who is both over-privileged and an aggressive chewer. His favorite toy is a "Wubba" from Kong which is supposed to be indestructible. He has destroyed two of them so far, but currently has two...one for upstairs and one for downstairs. He knows them by name and occasionally takes one of them outside to play, but will go and get it when asked. Kong replaced the first destroyed one free, but I haven't tried to get more refunds. We just get another when one goes to toy heaven.
