Lately many icons of my youth have passed on. I did not know of this man but because of his characters I spent many hours giggling at the TV in my youth.

Alexander Anderson, Jr.

The Cold War years of the late 1950s and 1960s were a fearful time to grow up. In elementary school we had regular exercises where we huddled under our desks, hands over our necks, and were warned to keep our eyes closed, lest they be blinded by nuclear flash. Two of my neighbors spent thousands installing self-contained underground bomb shelters. The head of the second most powerful nation in the world was seen on TV pounding his shoe on the podium of the UN threatening "We will bury you!"

The writers of this show, more than anyone else helped me to learn there is a humorous side to everything. We should never forget that children need reassurrence and stability. The way my crazy mind works, I'm reminded of the father character in the movie, "Life is Beautiful".
