I'm not an anti-religionist by a long shot, but hatred isn't a "value" in any sect I've ever read about, nor is the willful ignorance and overweening self-pity that some use religion to justify now, and this kind of stuff frightens me. Sorry if this insults someones assertions of religionousity-ness

I don't know about NOW...
Historically, the Catholic (Orthodox) Church prized ignorance in the masses. This is part of what led to Martin Luther's 95 Theses being nailed to the door of a church in 1517. (The sale of indulgences, for example) Hatred and bigotry are very useful tools to a religion, especially when it begins to become more corrupt. (Note that I said RELIGION, not FAITH. One is the organisational structure, the other is the belief system itself)
The nastiest examples of this right now are radical Islam, and Moral Minority type small churches, such as the "Reverend Phelps'" bunch of turkeys.
It's not nice, it's generally not part of the core tenets of the faith, but it's well established.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Isn't this the kind of use of granfalloons that should be avoided? Can we say the religion of Ockham, Anselm, Teilhard de Chardin, Merton fostered ignorance? That that of Francis Assisi , Dorthy Day and Romero is totally intolerant? There are protestant theologians (even mainline; Lutheran and Anglican ones, and certainly Calvinist), that are more dependent on authority (orthodoxy) for their reasoning. However I, personally, know some 'evangelicals' for whom I have nothing but respect.
It isn't about the theology, it is about the reasons for the theology and, even more the way that it is used as a tool for something that has nothing to do with theology or God.

If you listen to the whole thing, it is not racist. However, it is full of black and white thinking so I doubt that they would be supportive of us at all. :(

Bullying As A Christian Value?
It's totally awe-inspiringly, jaw-droppingly mind-numbing. These people are sick, sick, sick.
I've mentioned this elsewhere recently, but it bears mentioning again. I'm reading a book on some of the early history of Quakers. It puts a complete lie to the canard that "this country is founded on Christian principles, and is a Christian country."
The reality of the pre-Revolutionary period is that there are some horrid examples of official State sectarianism. Men and women were hung in Boston for being Quakers in the Massachusetts Colony in the 17th Century. New Amsterdam's Governor, Peter Stuyvesant, was ruthless in persecuting Christian denominations not his own. Baptists and Quakers were subject to imprisonment, public abuse, and serious injury. Stuyvesant exiled English settlers who were not Quakers for daring to defend the concept of freedom of religion.
The reality is, when the "Founding Fathers" of the U.S. were writing the Constitution, these and other abuses of Christian denominations by other Christian denominations were fresh enough in everyone's mind that they were not going to be allowed to stand. Never mind Jews, Moslems, Hindus and Buddhists. The damned Christians couldn't be trusted not to spill each other's blood in the streets. It was clear that none of them (no religion, sect or denomination) should ever be allowed to hold government power, and this should only ever be a secular country, with freedom of every religion to practice on their own, in peace, free of government interference, on an equal basis.
And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is where the "establishment clause" of the First Amendment came from, and why.

there's an eerie logic to it
That it's hard to tell someone not to beat up on someone without implying that the person in question deserves to not be beaten up, and therefor must be okay + valid, and this to these FOCUS ON THE FAMILY mother-focusers is unacceptable. Like one of my characters says, they'd be funny if they warn't so got-damn evil. The thing is
the idiots in this article are scared. If we really start to get rid of the bullying influences in the schools and promote the acceptance and learning of tolerance for all peoples they'll lose their audience.
Personally i think that Hate speech should be legislated as a crime or at least worthy of a fine.
