So... yeah. Some of you may remember a short story compilation involving TG situations that was soliciting stories, it was posted on here about a year ago, give or take... it was called, "Scheherazade's Façade" and you could enter as many potential pieces during the submission cycle (01 November, 2009 to 28 February, 2010) as you wished as long as each was a separate submission. |
| I sent in eleven {11} short stories, each between 8,500 and 10,000 words. Hoping that one of them at least would be chosen. I remembered today that if I had been chosen I would have been notified by 02 April, 2010.
So. Ah well. Back to the typing board. I may post them here, I may not. I dunno. Although I've gotten "used to rejection" ... it still bums me out. I'm still waiting for many things in my life right now, it seems. *sigh* |

Go on - even if a panel of judges don't like your stories, you can almost certainly bet several dozen readers here (at least!) will like them, read them, vote on them, possibly even comment on them.
What better way to boost your ego after those rejections than seeing, say, 956 reads, 47 votes and 5 comments on each story within a week of posting here? :)

I sent in a piece as well. I got my rejection notice a few days ago so don't give up hope if you haven't heard anything yet! I do hope that you succeed where I failed. Like you I don't take rejection well. Just too many unpleasant years of doubting myself and my self worth makes it hard. However, nothing ventured nothing gained! Hang in There!!!!

I didn't even have the guts to go that far. I've had delusions of getting published, but I've also read others work, here, and see the difference. Some of the things of yours, that I've read are AS good, if not better than things I've seen in print (even things I've edited for someone that got their piece into a publication like that one).
From all I've read, if what you (we, perhaps some day) submit isn't in the "mold" of what the editor (panel of judges) is looking for, they may well miss the gem. I recall an interview I read a few years ago, where an editor admitted to having rejected a story that when published by a competitor went on to win a major award. He said something like "It's obvious how good it is now, but at the time, I was looking for something like XYZ, and when the piece didn't have the elements I was looking for, I didn't even notice how good a story it was."
