I saw a story about the law in Uganda that calls for putting Gays and Lesbians to death. It talked about the group of American evangelicals who have gone over there and incited people to use vigilante tactics to hunt down and kill anyone thought to be Gay and Lesbian. They showed the crowd films with Gay porn and worked the crowds into a frenzy . I sincerely hope the U.S State Department and the U.N take some kind of action to prevent this open call for genocide. They need to confiscate the passports of these idiots when they return home again and make sure they can never leave the U.S for the rest of their lives. There needs to be worldwide sanctions placed on Uganda for even thinking of anything like this. It is horrifying to think of what some people are going through at this moment because some people thought they had the right to judge and condemn others for how they live. I guess they skipped over the commandment that says "Thou Shalt Not Kill" These people are insane and they must be stopped! This is the same type of thing that cost 6 million Jews their lives at the hands of Hitler. We cannot allow this to happen again!

Judge Not

Over time many atrocities have been committed in the name of religion.

Christian fanatics seem to forget about the love, tolerance and forgiveness messages of Jesus.

And of course they really should remember Matthew 7, verse 1:

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Some Have Speculated That the Pope

. . .was circumpsct in his remarks because he feared a backlash.

Others have speculated that he is a ultra-conservative ass who wouldn't mind a little gay-bashing.

I notice he did talk about the sanctity of life, which would have seemed to offer an opening for some sort of remark about the inappropriateness of capital punishment.

Let's just (for the sake of argument) allow that gays are somehow inferior human beings. I don't for a minute believe that, but let's just allow that for this discussion. Allowing that gays are inferior, wouldn't they fit into Christ's teaching as the "least among you". Didn't Christ ask us to love even them?

The Pope isn't the only world leader who is ignoring this incredible catastrophe.

'and why wouldn't He??He also said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone".
I just love the way some people hide behind their religion. The mongrel doctor who
raped me as a 15 year old was a pillar of our local church and could do no wrong
in the eyes of most of the parishioners. That was 1948 and in 1981 I saw him dying of
HIV/AIDS and he was buried from the church.I was not one of the mourners.
These so called missionaries should be brought back to home base and locked up
forever and a day. They are a disgrace to your country.

De Oppresso Liber - These are NOT Christians

Someone earlier quoted but neglected the following verse.

Matthew 7:1 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 "For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

In this case, I welcome being judged on what I'm about to say.

I Can't believe these people claim to be Christians. They are blind, foolish and bigoted. They try to apply the law (incorrectly) without the Love Christ displayed to all people. If they are missionaries, how can they speak to others when all they know is hate? How can they speak of Jesus without remembering that Christ was liberating. He spoke freedom, love, and justice for almost everyone he touched. He did say some hard and harsh things about the scribes and pharisees, hmmm much like these "missionaries." A common bumper sticker asks the question, What would Jesus do? I do believe he would speak out against this kind of hate and oppression. His motto might very well have been "De Oppresso Liber" to liberate the oppressed (US Special Forces motto)

I'll put away my soapbox now...

I too believe they should have their passports confiscated. Perhaps they should be awarded community service - in an HIV ward.

Please do not judge all Christians by these idiots. Yes I know too many who call themselves Christian are bigoted and blind, but not all of us. Oh, BTW I have the degrees and experience to make these statements stick. Thanks for reading.

Not Quite...

The death penalty, according to the wire service articles that ran when the bill was introduced late last year, applies only to the spread of AIDS through gay sex, presumably (my extrapolation) by defining that as premeditated murder. (Lesbians, I'd think, need not apply.) For whatever reason, that wasn't mentioned in the ABC article.

As outrageous as this whole situation is -- long prison sentences and physical threats can't be overlooked -- there seems to be a general determination here to raise the level of hysteria here to lynch mob level. While it may be easy for me to say, I'm not sure how helpful that is to either side.

RAMI

Perhaps the extent of the cruelty and vehemence shown in the video and story may have more to do with the nature of the Ugandan tribal cultures and the history of that nation rather then the Christianity of those Ugandan ministers doing the preaching.

Idi Amin, the “Butcher of Uganda” was responsible for the murder of, depending on the estimates, between 100,000 and 500,000 of his fellow countrymen and women. With greater cruelty being shown to members of tribes with ancient animosity to the tribe he belonged to.

There is anecdotal if not actual proof that he was a cannibal.

To torture, imprison and kill your enemies is not alien to the culture.

In this case that thought pattern is turned toward homosexuals not members of other tribes.

Of course the simple preaching of hatred is wrong in the first place.

I can't say what I want to...

Not in public. A: it is quite profane. B: it involves bigot slaughtering.

An eye for an eye, if they want to go all biblical about it.They want to slaughter us? We are more than capable of returning the favor.
