All of us dream even if they don't grace us with the memories of those faraway journeys. However, for some of us, those dreams are more, inspiring the stories we tell and write. Magic...
Maybe there was something between us besides friendship, but first I had to come to some kind of peace with my death before I could begin to live again.
Sometimes...it's coming to grips with the death of something more than friendship as well?
...perhaps, for me at least, it's that inside transformation? I know that in real life, all that many of us may hope for is that we will still be friends with those whom we love. And maybe that will prove to be just enough. Thank you, dear one.

Lovely.
Rose and Winston violated their own humanity in doing what they did much as the cultists.
Of course there is this whole stewardship metaphor in this story. I am sorry to say us mortals in their rush to propagate a future for themselves (having too many children) is in the end ruining it for their future progeny. Sometimes to be responsible stewards one must sacrifice of themselves to make that happen, be it not having too many children or not having any at all.
Not all of our children are so important that they will have the cure for cancer or something.
Anyway, Rose's bald faced betrayal is oh so f'ed up.

Make a super fantastic movie or anamey. Grover you really out did your self. I would personal say that if this story was a woven basket it would be water tight. And very beautiful.
I would love to know where you developed your spiritual insight, it must have been a very interesting road. Your observations are subtle and powerful at the same time, thank you very much for your superb efforts.

Great story Grover, it really makes one stop and appreciate what you have.
The Rabbit Hole
This story has been a very pleasant surprise.
From one perspective, it is like reading the philosophers, psychologists, and physicists coming to grips with what Einstein described in his famous paper now known as the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Argument in Quantum Physics. In effect, the inescapable Field phenomena that many are now describing as the 'home' of an individual's Mind as distinct from the biological brain.
And for those who enjoy Jung, it is like reading a description of his Individuation process as the Self works through the levels of Persona, Ego, Shadow, and Anima(us) to arrive at Self.
And for those who appreciate Campbell, it is like listening to Old Joe describe that theoretical event of about 40,000 years ago when near death experiences were the initiatory crises for Shamans who then began to describe Man's ability to be part of and to tie into the Consciousness that pervades Creation.
And, for those who appreciate modern neurophysiology's description of how traumatic events trigger premature BDNF events, creating what some describe as analogs to autism and associated learning disorders, and what others describe as a path for understanding and comprehending humanity's ability to connect and comprehend the connection to nature at the more spiritual or quantum field level.
And finally, where many who understand through experience guide the rest into the power of Mindful Meditation's ability to enhance and entrain the Self to achieve greater understanding, control and connection.
All together, this is a great story and not a surprise considering who wrote it.

was you had taken the earlier Who do that Hoodoo and expanded it, or maybe this was a follow up. But it is a different story totally (even if in the same vein of an urban fantasy) and done very well. Thanks for an interesting afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Grover, you gave your readers a glimpse into a magical world that lives side by side with the mundane one. Ira and The Dreamer first seemed to be a dichotomy of spirits that was not that at all. More of a union that was finally coming to fruition. Very nicely done and kudos from me for this one.

I can't believe it. I missed a Grover story! How could I possibly sin so?
Btw. you kind of pulled a story idea out of my mind. Well, at least the dreamer premise. I always wondered... when you sleep, maybe your soul goes somewhere else fighting for good or evil.
I rather like the idea of sealed or shunted magic. It is too corruptive for humanity to handle safely. I mean the most dangerous technology we have (that is not weapons) are nuclear power plants. But one alone can't destroy civilisation. But magic... humans being humans will destroy all built before. While the society are fanatics, they're fanatics for a good reason. Magic will only bring destruction.
Thank you for writing this captivating story, I'm sad for our hero and his wife though,
