I do wish people wouldn't do this!

I was reading an excellent story and one of the comments was and I quote:

This story is very similar to another story posted.....

I hate to see this sort of comment as the implication, to me anyway, is that the story might in some way be plagiarism, even if that isn't the intended meaning.

A lot of my stories have had that sort of comment and I must admit that I take it personally.

The writers of those comments might mean something like 'Oh, I like this so try that story', but it doesn't read that way.

Quote in a story that makes me laugh!

As I sat and read Susan Grafton's excellent A is for Alibi, I came across this gem:

"The only cleavage I got left, I sit on,"

I was mid sip on a cup of coffee as I read ( I shouldn't do that!) and I nearly covered the sofa with cofee.

Anyone else have any wonderful quotes they can remember like that?

Well, who is right then

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Quite often I read a story and the phrase 'I could care less' crops up.

For example 'I could care less about you.'

As far as I am aware, in the good ol' UK we say 'I couldn't care less about you.'

So which is right or are they both right?

Sue

PS, Another good one is the use of 'is all,' rather than 'that's all.'but I'm not sure about the context on that one.

for Football Girl 23!

I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to vote and/or comment on my little story.

I love the story and it is very close to my heart.

For those interested Football Girl 31 is with Gabi for her to slash about with her red pen.

Sometimes I dread getting emails from my trusty editor!

Do the ends justify the means?

I have a story published on Stardust called The Chosen.

When I wrote it, I envisioned a time in the not too far distant future, when the world was facing a crisis.

The story is about a world where girls are no longer being born. The consequence of this was, eventually we as a species would die out.

New Susan Brown story on Stardust

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Just to let you know that I have posted a new story called The Chosen on Stardust. I will be posting it here, if I get a positive response about a week later.

Any new chapters will be published the same way.

So if you have few minutes to spare, pop across and have a look!

If anyone knows how to make the story look nicer, especially on the Stardust front page, I would be grateful for any help. It's not as easy as BCTS!

Do sequels work?

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

A number of readers are saying that I should start finishing off Changes as it appears to be coming to a natural end, as certain threads are closing or have closed. Others have said that I should go into book 2 or some sort of sequel as there are a lot of things unfinished.

I tried the book 2 methods for Working Girl and Home Alone and while they were appreciated, I always felt that the edge had been knocked off the readers appetite.

Changes - Warning and explanation

Please note that the latest Changes episode contains a plot that may upset some people and I quite understand if you do not wish to read the chapter.

Unfortunately, sometimes things don't always run smoothly and although the story is in the main happy and sweet in nature, like real life, something happens that pushes our comfort zone.

Changes Double Chapter

Just to let you know that I have just sent the latest chapter of Changes to Gabi to have a look at and dissect.

It is a double chapter - that is why it's a wee bit late - and concerns itself with Sarah's story.

I hope that you will like it.

I have no control...

A I sit here in the garret of my castle high up in the mountains of Transyvania, I ran my tongue over my sharpened teeth and await for the night when I can go out and have a bite to eat.....

There I go again letting my characters take over. I start off with a good story idea and know roughly where I'm going with it and then my character, like a vampire in the night comes and takes a chunk out of my well laid plotand does their own thing and to hell with well laid plans.

How often do I do this and why do I let my characters get away with it?

Re Changes~21

Due to the fact that I have just published the latest Football Girl and I don't want to infest the site with too many Susan Brown stories at once, the next chapter of Changes is not going to be up tomorrow. (Do I hear cheers?)

I apologise for any inconvenience caused and can assure you that normal services will resume as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

7 basic plots

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Author:

There are evidently 7 basic plots and every story utilises one or more of them.

The plots are:

1. Man v (Wo)man

2. (Wo)Man v Nature

3. (Wo)Man v Environment

4. (Wo)Man v Machine
